Devestation in dungeons

Is anyone enjoying the play style in Mythics? It feels clunky and underwhelming, does it get better with more gear? I would imagine like all casters it might pick up with more haste. I like the visuals and I want to enjoy the class but it seems so unintuitive. Not to mention, the damage seems to have a lot of RNG, sometimes I love it and sometimes it’s terrible. . . So what am I missing? :joy:

I’m honestly really enjoying its rotation. It is a bit heavy on some of the RNG at times with chain procs but not dependent on them. What kind of rotation are you fallowing while doing trash? Most pulls if your 2+ targets your main attack will be Azure Strike to build Charged Blast. If its 3+ targets used Essence on Pyre. I like to build up 2 Essence Burst if its a rather large pack and then power out as many Pyre in secession I can. If your at 3 or less targets Save Pyre till you have a Higher count of Charged Blast and use Disintegrate as your spender to proc Scintillation, that can be really satisfying to watch if you get a few procs off. Use Fire Breath and Eternity Serge on cooldown unless the pull is near completion. Also save Deep Breath for the pack to be about half way or better down. Also try to use Dragon Rage as often as you can its only a 2min CD so you should have it up for most pulls. I personally just make sure not to use it on the trash pack before a boss.

I think more than stats for making it feel better it will be harder content i.e. M+ and raid content so you can make decent use of all the abilities. If your doing just normal/heroic or m0 with a relatively geared group trash can die to quickly to really get things to start procing and really pump some numbers more so than stats.

I really recommend looking at wowhead’s guide to there rotation and really getting to know the synergy between your spells. when you first look at it you will see a wall of text but its not that bad. A lot of it comes down to an “If X then Y”.

I read the guides previously but another time wouldn’t hurt I’m sure. if it’s user error I’m definitely okay fleshing that out, but if it’s just downright bad design I don’t have it in me to struggle with another toon like that (Balance Druid main here) :joy:

Devoker in my opinion is too reliant on living flame procs which ties you close to flame breath. I kind of wish flame breath didnt have a cd so we can just dot stuff whenever. If flame breath could be used while its on cd but it only applies a dot it would feel better.

At the moment single target devoker is very boring.

Not every class is for everyone can definitely be a possibility as well. I know that one of my favorites classes for theme is disc priest. I think atonement is an awesome class mechanic but I just can’t get in to playing it.

I’m having a lot of fun with the class in PvP with the constant movement and fun utility buttons like Rescue, but it feels a little bland in PvE to me.

Neither Azure Striker nor Living Flame (without Leaping Flames or Burnout procs) feel very rewarding to press imo.

Spamming Pyre is also kinda zzzzz.

Just my opinion, but it feels like the PvE rotation lacks the zappy flow and synergy that defines most modern specs.

It would be cool if we could build a proc through Pyre that allowed Disintegrate to channel on multiple targets or had more reliable ways to generate Essence Burst outside of Dragonrage. A third Empowered ability would also add some spice. :person_shrugging:

Scintillation procs Eternity Surge on Disintegrate at 30% damage.

I am aware, but a non-interactive passive that doesn’t affect rotational gameplay is exactly what I mean by the PvE rotation being boring.

As a Devoker I only feel strong in dungeons.
On AOE pulls I’m almost always top DPS by a insane margin, it’s the boss fights I struggle a bit with. It’s better to focus on avoiding mechanics, and bursting down adds than worrying about uptime on boss. Usually in third on boss fights unless I pop off and do mechanics perfectly.

It’s PVP I cannot figure out. I feel very weak. I’m trained down by melee and cannot escape even with 3 hovers. I’ll pop everything onto someone and they shrug it off. Either I Need lots more experience with evoker in PVP, or they just suck. Course it could easily be me or my gear time will tell. Willing to tough it out

60%, it is 2 point talent

Very true! It’s starting to shape up a bit more with some more gear and probably just more practice as well. The AoE potential is great, but seems lacking on ST with the build from WoWhead but maybe there isn’t much to do about that. Overall it’s a fun class in dungeons when things line up properly, I think. I’ll have to keep pushing it and see how it turns out at the higher ilvls and more rotational practice.

If you are having a issues with uptime and st on bosses this is likely to be improved with knowledge. Hover allows insane uptime, and I’m typically in first by large margins on boss fights assuming my CD is up. You need the CD reset talents for both charge spells to ALWAYS be top on st, but even without you shouldn’t be that low in dungeons.

I think what I’m looking forward to enjoying about it is after having higher haste. I really want to see how many extensions for our CD I can get from resetting charged spell cds as much as possible. I’m almost able to get more extensions during hero, so with higher haste the hero burst window is likely to be even nuttier. Realistically, there are few buttons but to enjoy it you have to enjoy the thought process behind how the passives all work together with the few buttons you press. If you want complexity via more buttons devoker is not going to feel fun.

We dont seem to get a huge return on haste. Numbers wise haste is about the same as crit for me but is way lower percentage wise.

I’ve had a huge amount of mastery so I’ve been taking in some haste/crit and it seems to be smoothing things out a bit better.

Oh it helps but im compareing number/percentage to my shaman that while i haven’t leveled up seemed to get more out of haste percentage wise during prepatch. Granted im only 351 so gear from raids and such may smooth things but its just what I noticed.

I definitely don’t have much, either. I think I’m at 18% haste, 19% crit but upon turning 70 I had 9% haste and it felt not so great. Perhaps there is a sweet spot as we progress like frost mages and their 33.34% crit :joy: it will be interesting to sim as we start getting into the real gear and see how it all plays out.

Big numbers on AOE pulls, depressing on ST?

Ret pally since forever says hi!

TLDR, it’ll get better with haste

I wish flame breathe had a reduced cd per charge. Like 10 sec to just use the tier one

The long, long, long cast times and the fact that when you lift your finger from charged attacks and sometimes it doesn’t go off if you move too soon since it cancels the animation, devoker feels rough.

Plus if you’re unlucky with procs, either from the fire breath dot giving living flame instant casts, or the surge on disintegrate, then you’re SOL for literally anything. Spamming living flame and azure strike for 15+ seconds trying to fish for something while everybody else’s class gets to hit actual buttons just feels like Devoker is just missing a big chunk of itself and they didn’t really think about it.
