The game War Thunder has one where you can make skins for the planes. Several of the best are actually put in game as actual skins everyone can see.
What I was thinking is it would be neat if Blizzard put out a Developer’s Kit for transmog gear. The best being put in game.
I’m retired due to illness, but I do have a graphics art background and would enjoy giving older low rez gear a high rez pass. Maybe take existing art change the colors and make some really cool looking new sets.
I have a feeling others with artistic talents would as well.
That doesn’t work with the fact that all assets in the game are created by Blizzard and downloaded by the user along with the rest of the game, and replacing default assets can get an account banned.
So it would be more than a small technical change.
Just so you understand what your suggestion is up against.

My suggestion is working with Blizzard & the Developers to improve old assets. If good enough they (Blizzard) could apply them in game.
Why I called it a Developer’s Kit (from Blizzard), to work with Blizzard to improve old assets & possibly make new assets.
I can see it becoming a fun aspect of the game unleashing creativity. Upload creations to a modeler, have people vote on them. I think it would be awesome to see people’s creations actually implemented into the game.
Heck maybe add some of the really awesome ones to the Blizzard shop & have a revenue sharing program.
Blizzard might even find some really talented artists & offer them jobs. I see endless fun & beneficial positive possibilities.
So, a way for non-employees to contribute to the official baseline.
That seems more manageable, although the development team would have to designate developers to liason with the community, vet contributions, etc.
And legal would have to be plugged in.
