Developer Insight: Universal Upgrade System Improvements for Dragonflight Season 3

How about you actually read the article?

At the launch of DF Blizzard seemed to understand that harder bosses should drop better gear and moved to 3 item level jumps in VoTI then 4 in Aberrus.

The upgrade system completely obliterates this and seems to make it kind of pointless to have the higher item levels per boss.

It seems like they went with harder content = better rewards and did a complete 180. Maybe that is for the better? I’m not sure.

Minor details when the only way to get m+ myth gear is through the vault? Yeah keep digging.

what are you on? nobody said only way to get m+ gear is through the vault. wow. oh my. cant convers with you anymore. you are making things up now. suspected troll.

  • You have 1 choice of vault.
  • There are 2 completely separated gear path.
  • You are forced to choose m+ gear because it’s the only way to gain myth track level gear.

Why must I have to choose between the two paths because some players can’t help but play stuff they don’t like?

systemlands? meet systemflight.

PVE players about to complain that PVP upgrading is easier? Maybe.

Seems like great changes. GG

P.S. Please make the storyline great like u have done with the new gearing and talent systems. Get the OG warcraft vibe back.

I like this.

One thing that wasn’t made clear, are Shadowflame Crests going into our currency tabs too? Are they remaining items? Are they getting deleted and exchanged for gold? Some information would be helpful.

Looks like they’re iterating on the current system. Hopefully it slows down overall min/maxing while still allowing gear to come from multiple types of content. Seems promising and glad to see they’re looking to improve systems instead of can them.

Won’t increasing the ilvl difference between gear just create a wider ilvl gap between players?

They’re doing everything but fixing the problem. Usual double down behavior on timegate as progress lockouts, vault, catalyst, etc.

Even professions are timegate as progress now and ruined due to it.

It’s not a content too hard problem. It’s not a people want to do solo content only problem. It’s not a “we’re not giving out entry ilvl gear fast enough” problem.

It is timegate as progression, putting people in the weekly timeout for stuff they want to do, dealing with people over timegate not being worth it, fomo burning for missing a week because some of us prefer bursty playstyle, lack of actual player agency over their actual progression and experience problem. All these combined make it worthless to engage with the trashy gearing systems.

I honestly think the company doesn’t care and they’ve done their final double down on keeping WoW as a freemium game that has you drag out your sub rather than play how you want meaningfully. Almost feel bad for the community manager they have to drag out to write these articles out.

This is great!

When talking about PvE/PvP barrier to entry. Can we address the vault next?

Players either have to choose PvP items or PvE items in their vault meaning you need two different characters if you are competitive in both modes.

I’m as low-end as you can get (solo open-world content only) and the 6 to 1 will help me a lot. My main is sitting on mass quantities of whelpling and drake crests that I have no use for. They can’t be used in 10.2, but eventually I’ll have the same situation with the new dream crest currency. Having the ability to trade them up is a big win for me.

Only thing I cared about was the whelpling Upgrading…

we agree that in a limited form, this would be both fun and healthy.

:dragon: :ocean: :dragon: :ocean:

Usual dead on arrival changes because they wanna double down on not doing what’s necessary and keep hitting the easy button timegate/fomo for so much stuff.

That’s a thing for sure, but the other side of the coin is all the people with no self control who rage about being forced to grind non-stop to max out fast, then they complain that there’s nothing left to do until the next patch. Either way, someone’s going to be upset and threatening to quit.

Why couldn’t they remove the lock out on raid, everything but mythic raid?

Let my people flex

Aspect crests and their associated 447 crafted gear?

This sounds great! The only addition I wish we had was a vendor to purchase BoA crests similar to the vendor who sells crest upgrades. Similar restrictions even.

If you’ve reached the breakpoint to be able to purchase a crest upgrade at the 6:1 ratio, there’s also an option to purchase a BoA token to mail to alts instead. I can’t tell you how many whelpling’s crests I’ve vendored on my main at this point as they are literally useless to her, but even at a 2:1 or 3:1 or whatever ratio (hopefully not the same 6:1 as the upgrade option) I have alts who still need plenty of them to upgrade for transmog appearances.

Speaking of upgrading for transmog…how is that going to work for Season 2 / Aberrus gear after the current crests are removed from the game?

I literally don’t care about the ilvls or player power, my endgame is collecting appearances. If I don’t earn enough Drake/Wyrm/Aspect’s Shadowflame Crests across all my alts to upgrade their Champion/Hero gear to the next tier breakpoint for the appearances before the crests are gone…can I just never upgrade that gear for transmog ever again? Or is there a plan to allow us to continue to upgrade these pieces without the crests, similar to how the Catalyst now allows us to convert Season 1 gear without using charges?
