I did a 9 Siege and a 10 Dawnbreaker yesterday, and it was a very rough endeavor. Every time I got mechanics on me it just feels like I can do nothing to keep myself alive. I’ll pair Obsidian Scales with Renewing Blaze and I’ll still just get eaten by mechanics. My green spells don’t seem to be helping much either. Am I missing something? Or are we really just that squishy.
Don’t forget rescue and zephyr.
Mail toons have historically been squishy. Spec into verse, look for Avoidance gear, get Avoidance enchants.
A little anecdote: in dragonflight I had 30% verse and 20% Avoidance on my Death knight and it was super comfy cozy. Obviously not possible in S1 WWI, but just saying how valuable some defense on your gear can be.
Part of your problem is using these together.
You lose a ton of blaze value when you pair it with scales.
Obviously if you’re going to die you can’t help it, but evoker is deceptively tanky when using defensives proactively.
Cannot stress this enough. Use this on your healer or a squishy DPS with twin serpent when you’re about to take a big hit.
Zephyr those group aoes as much as you can.
The main thing is just to know what’s coming and when to make sure scales is up whenever needed.
You could also do with a bit more vers if possible on top of some extra ilvl. You’re not low for those keys per se, but you’re definitely working with a little less HP than you could be.
I work around this by using one defensive at a time. If I keep getting targetted repeatedly, I ask for someone to use an external (i.e. rallying cry or pain suppression). But you should comfortably be able to take ~5 big mechanics before running out of tricks.
Your kit should include:
- 2x obsidian scales
- Zyphyr
- Rescue if talented into Twin Guardian
- Renewing blaze and self heals
- Hover if talented into Nimble Flyer (scalecommander hero talent)
Side note: Spacial Paradox pairs well with this to give you three charges of hover, which can act as a defensive in a way. - Healing potion
I never really thought about using Rescue specifically as a defensive. That might help me out. Otherwise I’m fully enchanted with avoidance and Stam enchants. And I do carry around health pots. I’ll try to double up less on defensives.
There’s no reason to take Nimble Flyer, Slipstream is way too good lol.
We have plenty of survivability outside of that.
Depends who you ask I suppose. I like slipstream for raid but prefer nimble flyer for m+. I dont think slipstream is really needed for M+ unless you’re doing excessive movement.
Unless I start doing 12s and noticing I just can’t live mechanics, I don’t see 10% DR during hover outpacing near permanent hover uptime.
True, though, it’s definitely a preference thing.
