OKay. I have tried to play this damn toon. When I have a tank I can do crazy dps. But soloing is crazy! I go down faster then a cheap hooker on a busy friday night…
It’s a kiting class against big mobs. It’s pretty fragile if you’re standing there toe-to-toe, if the mob is too big to simply burst down. You have to use your Landslide, Deep Breath, Wing Buffet and Tail Swipe, and cast a lot of Azure Strikes to snare your target to allow you to get range. Hover for speed and the ability to cast while moving. Your healing alone isn’t enough to get you through, but watch for instant cast Living Flames you can cast on yourself, and don’t forget Verdant Embrace and Emerald Blossom – they’re not big for a Dev, but they can help. Obsidian Scales and Renewing Blaze to help you soak damage.
It isn’t a spec where you can be stingy in using your cooldowns against big mobs.
Use defensives?
Use the multiple self-heals?
Use the multiple CCs and slows?
The range limitation feels bad but there are so many ways to keep distance in that 25yd or face-tank things that are CC-immune.
This is the issue OP. It took them…18 years? To introduce a new ranged spec, and the one we got might as well be a Ret Paladin.
But Cymbel is right, you should treat it like a Frost Mage.
You can’t have big DPS+ranged dps+moving while casting+tankiness all in 1 class. Each class has strength/weaknesses…except paladins.
Mobility is pally weakness
Oh and player opinion is also our weakness
Use your heals (green) and damage debuff (black) as well as your racials.
Is your devoker low geared, or not yet 80? I ask because I have no issues as a prevoker getting mobs down that I need to get down. Do you have a good grasp on your rotation? Are you comfy fighting? Some players are not… I am not trying to point fingers, I just find that my first questions about stuff like this are questions I would ask of myself.
Add in Lust, multiple AoE interrupts, a decurse, a purge, an aggro drop, a group defensive, and a raid buff and you just described mages.
The only thing Devoker is missing is tankiness. But with slows on our spells, knockback, movement while casting… we’re fine.
Evokers have lust.
