Devastation-Evoker Overview/Feedback

Hey guys,
Petko here,

I have been playing for the past 4 days on the first iteration of the Dragonflight Alpha and here are my first impressions, suggestions and also highlights of how Evoker is looking at first glance.

First I consider this spec, a hybrid, between ranged and melee. Majority of your spells are rouhgly around 25 yards, and there are some that can go over 50 yards (example of this can be Deep Breath). For those that have never played Evoker and only seen it on streams or videos, it is the most mobile caster you could imagine (Similar mobility can be seen in Beast Mastery Hunters), with one of the best utilities in the game + great damage so far.

To further dive into the spec and highlight their utility I will mention few details so you can get the general idea of what I refer to:

#1 Expunge - Poison Removal (8 seconds CD)
#2 Cauterizing Flame - Bleed, Poison, Curse, Disease Removal (60 seconds CD)
#3 Sleep Walk - Single-Target hard CC cast (Similar to Hex) (15 seconds CD)
#4 Landslide - It works similar to Mass Root from the balance druids, but it has a
90 seconds CD, and also a talent that further enhance its effect breaking it with a lot more damage
#5 Blessing of the Bronze - Party/Raid buff, reducing the major movement abilities to all members by 15%
#6 Source of Magic - 30 minutes buff, everytime you cast an empowered spell (Max rank can very between 3 or 4 depending on your talent choices), you restore 0.5% of the mana of the person with the buff per empowerment (so it can be a max of a 2% mana)
#7 Zephyr - Reduces damage taken from area-of-effects by 20% and increases the movement speed of the party members by 30% for 8 seconds (120 seconds CD)
#8 Time Spiral - Allows you and a chosen party member to cast your major movement
speed ability even if it’s on cooldown for the next 10 seconds (120 seconds CD)
#9 Oppressing Roar - Let out a front cone that increases the duration of crowd control effects of the targets that get hit by 50% (So pretty much if you get hit by that frontal cone, someone else can follow up with a stun and has its duration of the stun increase by 50% and it works for mass stuns too) (120 seconds CD)
#10 Overwave (passive) - Oppressing roar removes 1 Enrage effect from each enemy and its cooldown is reduced by 20 seconds for each Enrage dispel
#11 Fly with Me - You can pick up and Ally and flor to a location of your choice (60 seconds CD)
#12 Rescue - Fly to an ally and heal them for X Amount (24 seconds CD)
#13 Tail Swipe - knocking up enemies in the air within 6 yards (90 sec CD but can be reduced by half)
#14 Wing Buffet - Similar to Druid’s Typhoon (90 seconds CD but can be reduced by half)

Keep in mind some of those talents are optional and you might want to exclude them but the majority of them are based in the general talent tree for the class and will be chosen either way. There are a few more options I didn’t include but this gives you a good summary of how good the utility of this spec is. Yes it is by FAR the heaviest utility-class designed so far, with the only class that comes close to it in Mythic+ scenarios being a Balance Druid.

Now, if that wasn’t enough, this spec is also insanely good in DPS, with two viable specs so far:

Fire build / Frost build

I am not going to dive into those because otherwise you will end up reading pages upon pages of positive feedback so in case there is an interest I will add additional information for the people that want to read it.

  • But to summarize, their damage profile, so far, looks great in all scenarios, mass AoE, single-target, priority-target damage, 3 target cleave, 2-target cleave. I would say in a spread-damage situation they won’t be doing great but that’s quite rare to have either way.

The spec also has the possibility to off-heal which is always a plus not only in solo-content but also in a party-orientated content such as Mythic+.

The only disadvantage so far that I have discovered is you have a pretty weak defensive-cooldowns and you are generally squishy, yes there are few talents that give you a passive mitigation ( Tempered Scales reduces magical damage taken up to 4% ), or increase in stamina with 4 % by Draconic Legacy, but your main defensive cooldown - Obsidian Scale is rather weak. That is one thing that I can suggest for the Dev team to look at is adding extra external cooldowns or improving the current one, else we might risk having a similar case to Marksmanship Hunter.

Hope you guys enjoy the read, and if you do have questions, don’t hesitate to poke me.
Petko

P.S. This was a quick-overview and not a detailed description of how the spec looks like, it is not a guide nor a complaint, but more of a form of feedback.

Hey Petko

There is a post for evoker stuff on the alpha forums already, this feedback might be seen quicker over there!
