Detailed Instructions: Silent Footsteps for Horse Mounts in WoW Classic

For Undead, Warlock, Human, Paladin, and Deathcharger’s Reins you’ll need to make a .ogg extension audio file with each of the following names:

mfootstepshorsedirt01
mfootstepshorsedirt02
mfootstepshorsedirt03
mfootstepshorsedirt04
mfootstepshorsedirt05

mfootstepshorsegrass01
mfootstepshorsegrass02
mfootstepshorsegrass03
mfootstepshorsegrass04
mfootstepshorsegrass05

mfootstepshorsesnow01
mfootstepshorsesnow02
mfootstepshorsesnow03
mfootstepshorsesnow04
mfootstepshorsesnow05

mfootstepshorsestone01
mfootstepshorsestone02
mfootstepshorsestone03
mfootstepshorsestone04
mfootstepshorsestone05

mfootstepshorsewood01
mfootstepshorsewood02
mfootstepshorsewood03
mfootstepshorsewood04
mfootstepshorsewood05

I personally made a 0.15 second silent audio file and made 24 copies, then renamed them all with the file names above.

You then create a new folder titled Sound in your C/Program Files/World of Warcraft/_classic_ folder.

Within the Sound folder, you create a folder titled creature.

Within the creature folder, you create a folder titled horse.

Within the horse folder, you move all of the sound files you created above. If you need any additional help, add me on Discord. shmekel#6557

I’ll try to find the sound file names and locations for Mechanostrider as well when the server comes back up since a lot of Gnomes seem to be suffering in a similar manner to those of us with horse mounts. If anyone has any additional requests, feel free to ask me here or message me on Discord.

No more clip-clop.

Enjoy!

Edit: I’m going to make some OGG audio files with the standard clip-clop sounds, only much quieter and will post them here at a later date.

Oh my God, thank you so much! This is exactly what I’ve been needing! I like to watch TV on my second monitor while I play the game, and the constant clip-clopping noise was driving me insane.

I saved your audio file off as a file called “silent.ogg” and then I created a text file named “silent.bat” with these contents. I then executed the silent.bat file to create all of the necessary audio files:

copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsedirt01.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsedirt02.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsedirt03.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsedirt04.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsedirt05.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsegrass01.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsegrass02.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsegrass03.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsegrass04.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsegrass05.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsesnow01.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsesnow02.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsesnow03.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsesnow04.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsesnow05.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsestone01.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsestone02.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsestone03.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsestone04.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsestone05.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsewood01.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsewood02.ogg
copy silent.ogg mfootstepshorsewood03.ogg

Found this in my search and wanted to add to this for any future people searching for ways to mute the annoying footsteps.

Leatrix Plus addon has a feature to mute custom sounds but you need to know the sound id file number. Leatrix Sounds addon allows you to search through wow sound files, or you could use wow.tools website.

leatrix plus>system>mute custom sounds
copy and paste all numbers into editor box
click on mute on bottom left
test it by entering a single id file number into the top right and click play
