Destruction Warlocks & Versatility

I just came back to the game after a long break. I haven’t played since MoP so I am working on learning my way back into the game. I have been noticing that a number of high-end pve Destruction Warlocks use a ton of versatility gear, and trinkets. Is this really a thing, and if so why? I would think crit or haste would be better because of how Chaos Bolt scales with crit, and haste increase resource regeneration. Obviously I am missing something so if someone in the “know” could explain this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance…

havent heard of any vers stacking locks. we usually just use highest ilvl+haste

Checked on raider io… most top destro locks have zero/minimum vers.

From icy veins:

  1. The Basics of Stats for Destruction Warlock

The stat priority for a Destruction Warlock is:

Mastery ≥ Haste;
Critical Strike;
Versatility;
Intellect.

This stat priority was determined using a SimulationCraft profile in standard BiS gear with normalized stats. It was meant to simulate a very “average” set of player gear, but you should refer to this information with care. It is highly recommended you sim yourself to determine which stats your character gets maximum benefit out of, as this is subject to change depending on your ratios.

The general rule is that you want a good balance between Haste and Mastery for single target, but as you add more targets in the scenario, Mastery gradually becomes our best stat, even above Intellect.

Most players will notice their stat priority shifts as they acquire higher item levels, due to the variance in scaling.

These statistics have been obtained by combining common sense, in-game testing, and simulations using

Thanks for the information. I have definitely seen locks using a few versatility pieces and that Gladiator trinket that gives on use versatility but i guess it just sims well?
