Destruction needs a redesign (pvp topic)

With how limited the tool kit is, our 40 yard range on most attacks, and the fundamental core play style is. It just doesn’t mesh at all with how every other class plays. I am frustrated with the play style, and how hard it is to even get damage out with how easily we are shut down. It’s almost as if this specialization feels like a after thought. Sure it is capable of huge numbers but what is the point when you struggle to get that damage out, and get out performed on just about every aspect of the experience.

The builder, and spender philosophy feels dead in this expansion, and is not conductive to the rest of the pvp experience. I honestly believe it is time for this spec to get a over haul, and I don’t mean moving cap stones in the talent tree. It needs a full redesign. It just isn’t fun to play, and every time I do try to play it. It is a rage inducing experience.

Fellow destruction warlocks. What are your opinions on the spec? Maybe we can get a conversation started so that whomever is developing warlocks might have some input for what they want this specialization to be.

I’m gonna just be straight up with you, and this isn’t meant to be an attack, or mean. It’s just factual.

Blizz has, and never, ever will redesign a class to tailor to PvP in any capacity. It will always be balanced and designed around PvE environments.

That being said, sure some PvP talents/PvP tuning changes may happen. But as far as the actual spec tree getting overhauled to “feel/perform better” in PvP, never gonna happen.

The reason I am making the post is because even in other avenues of content. The specialization feels very lack luster. It just doesn’t make sense why it feels this bad.

I totally get it and am not attacking you for wanting change whatsoever, that’s completely acceptable.

Just merely setting the expectation of a full spec rework with PvP under the scope.

PvP is always second fiddle to PvE.

It’s not so much my expectation. Just my statement. When they changed the class from what it was in MOP. I was absolutely up in arms over it. There isn’t really a point other than talking about it.

MoP was peak for me with warlock, it was so much fun. Pvp right now, at least in my limited experience with it so far this expansion has been a nightmare.

I’ve been pvping as destruction, i’m conquest capped, bloody token capped, pushed a little bit in 2s, and that disaster battleground blitz, played arcane/frost mage to 1600 in battle ground blitz, and my boomkin to 1600 in battle ground blitz. The difference between the three spec/classes is mobility, cc, and self sustain. Nothing Destruction warlocks have in any capacity outside of Gateway, and demonic circle.

So yes. It is self imposed agony in my eyes to play destruction warlock. Haha.

Yeahhhh but to be fair, depending on which patch you’re talking about, KJC and blood fear were amongst the most broken things any class has ever had.

But fun? Yes, and crazy op lol.

Depending how you played. I always thought Chaos Wave was the primary offender at the beginning of that xpac. Then you had Dark Bargain, and Twilight Ward that mitigated the whole damage absorb DOT, and what was it? 5.2 when PVE became BIS for PVP. Then 5.4 was when they started the pvp damage vs pve nonsense. 5.4 was the best patch of the whole expansion though.

But what made warlock special that expansion was one Dev. Xelnath went above, and beyond for the class as a whole, and I feel like every class should have received that kind of treatment. Everything about warlock during mop was not only amazing but well done. Pinnacle class design in my opinion.

To be honest atm I am kinda enjoying Destro. I like the fact that I can do some dmg without casting.

Now its nothing insane but its something at least.

What I really miss in PvP is Entrenched in Flame root from Conflarglate. I mean the amount of gap closers that melees have is insane on top of permanent slow.

Entrenched in Flame would be nice PvP talent option that would replace Curse of Exhaustion.

Another thing I would rework is Grimoire of Sacrifice. This used to buff Chaos Bolt and healing you overtime. Now its damage is below average.

And final thing, and this is something I have been saying since legion. Bring back Burning Embers instead of Soul Shards. It fits Destro much more, it looks nice and with it bring back Ember Tap instead of USELESS Drain Life.

As someone who has been playing Destro for over a decade there is so much more I would like to change but overall I kinda like Destro atm.
