Maybe its just me but if you’re going to destroy Dalaran dont let us access it until its back, if it does “come back”. Ik, crazy, but sometimes crazy is good. or at least have the teleport be part of some Chromie timeway teleport hub in a specific room for such settings where she can take you back in time to places before they were destroyed if u need quests and whatever.
It’s a time thing. The game is riddled with it. There are actively 2 versions of Dal in the game, unless your alt is pre-legion, and then there are 3 (the one above Karazhan). Then we have our Time Keeper out in certain zones to either show you the past, or bring you back to current. It can get a bit overwhelming, but I do not see having Dalaran over Broken Isles as game breaking. I hope this helps clear up the distress you seem to be having from this. Even Theramore is alive and well right now.
If they bring it back canonically & in a different location — Personally I think we should just have it as a different name, whether its “In honour” of something or otherwise.
Although
… If we had it relocated to Dalaran Crater, we could have the “Ancient Dalaran Teleport / Portal” now go to a fully functioning city instead.
I made a suggestion in another thread →
If they did the above and revealed the city structure is a tad outdated & retro due to the failsafe being built quite a long time ago — You could argue to rename it “Ancient Dalaran” in reflection of such ![]()
To simplify what Drac said:
WoW stories function in time bubbles.
Content from x expansion stays in x expansion and does not update in real time to reflect more recent events unless it’s literally the exact same location needing to be used (in which case it likely has a level or quest threshold to update the phase, with an option to go back)
Doing that (updating areas based on current events) would necessitate effectively “vaulting” content like Destiny has been doing, which literally nobody likes and is an active and recurring criticism of the game (and the reason I’ll probably never play it again).
Making Dalaran inaccessible due to the events of TWW would shut down almost ALL Legion Questing and some of Northrend/WotLK Questing, despite them taking place earlier in time.
We are not accessing the current Dalaran, we are accessing the old version both in Northend (Wrath time) and in the Broken Isles (Legion time).
All the old zones are kept as they were back from Cataclysm forward unless they are reused. This is to support Chromie Time.
I wish the blizzard devs had more back bone and allowed things to be and take chances with allowing characters and places to be destroyed, without returning because there was too much plot armor protecting whatever it is.
Still waiting for when we flood Orgrimmar and drown every worthless Orc there.
I was hoping for that too honestly …
At least the Horde would have some of their own justifications to their warring with the Alliance, instead of it being one-sided all the time & constantly being virtue signaled ![]()
The Purge of Dalaran was like the ONE instance we had — and even then, Blizzard recently even watered that down in the late 'Chronicles Volume 4’ novel ![]()
Bring back Undercity ! Or make them a new home !
Flew to Kara on a fresh alt and don’t see a Dalaran above Kara ![]()
You rang? I got your crazy right here… ![]()
If they could unify the player experience of traveling back in time to those areas in a way that is a player choice then that would be optimal.
But then you’d need to fill in gaps that exist in the games current timeline.
As an example, Current northrend and legion wouldn’t have a Dalaran and those area’s conflicts have largely been resolved. So you’d have this big chunk of maps with little to do in them if you wanted continuity.
That would be boring.
It’s a weird problem.
People think time is a constant but it’s really a current. We’re just trapped in it. The closer you get to the origin of the big bang the more time slows down until you exist at the beginning and the present.
Did you get the quest to meet Khadgar over Karazhan? If no, then you would not see it.
You must be new…
