Destro Warlock Ideas

1.Make Cataclysm the AoE spender. Should still apply wither/immolate. Grant stacks of wither just like rain of fire, no cooldown, but cost 2 shards. Obviously, increased damage on hit

  • The best part of desto for me is the feeling of casting a chaos bolt, especially back to back, and knowing I’m sending a missile toward my target with big damage. The cast is long enought to feel like you’re charging up a big spell, but not so long that you just get bored waiting for it to go off. Having Cataclysm as the spender, especially if it does strong immediate damage, could easily give the same feeling.
  • The worst part of destro is casting a Cataclysm on a pack of mobs, just for the tank to not have them grouped enough to hit everyone or proceeding to pull more afterwords, and now you don’t have cata up to hit the rest of the mobs. Or when mobs are low health, wither is close to falling off, and cata is off cooldown, you have to sit and watch your dots fall off. Not the end of the world, but still annoying. All that feels terrible. If cata is tied to a shard cost instead of a cooldown, that resolves that problem.
  • Second worse thing, casting rain of fire, especially multiple, then the mobs move out of the rain of fire. Incredibly annoying. If the damage comes from the instant hit of cata, and whatever dot you’re using, then you don’t have to fight with that.
  • Imagine the feeling of casting back to back catas and just watching hell fall from the sky and obliterate a pack.
  1. Make our main cooldown, summon infernal, more interesting or change it altogether. I think having it make your spenders free, or at least reduced cost, would be awesome.
  • Summon infernal, both Crashing and Rain of Chaos, are just boring. Fire and forget. Sure, it can sometimes be visually cool if you get to summon a bunch from rain of chaos but you don’t really feel it. Crashing chaos, just makes your numbers for a couple spells bigger. BORING. Definitely don’t feel that. Other than maybe pooling resources before, your game play during cooldowns doesn’t change or feel any different. And the shard gen from it is only noticable during large packs of mobs. If our main cooldown made our spenders free for like 15-20 seconds, then you could just become a machine gun of powerful spellls and feel like an absolute cannon. Even if shard costs were reduced by 50%, you’d get the same feeling but you’d still have the gameplay of pooling resources before hand.
  • Destros damage is pretty flat/consistent. Not a big problem on its own, but theres a trend of on demand spike damage being very favorable in raids and dungeons to kill prioity mobs/targets quickly before something bad happens. Would be nice to have a good proper response to situations like this.
  • I just want a cooldown that you can feel. Something that slightly alters your normal rotation. Something that makes you excited to press it. Something like ascension for shaman, or combustion for fire mages. I don’t want flat damage increase, or barely noticeable shard generation. Demo lost their demon transformation, and I want something cool again.
  1. We need more help with movement. Especially if #1 ever makes it past his forum.
  • Make incinerate castable while moving again. Even if it has to barely do any damage, just give us something that doesn’t require use to pre plan every movement with gates/portal, or set ourselves on fire to run just slightly faster.
  • Make shadowburn either free, or generate shards. Maybe it costs shards above 30% health, but generates shards below. Or do neither, and just have it do a chunk of damage as it does now but for free so it can be used for movement without wasting a shard we wanted to use on chaos bolt. Maybe reduce or remove its ability to reduce its cooldown so that it doesn’t get out of hand. Or don’t. See how it goes. The way it is now, shadow burn just never feels good to press because I’d rather just be casting a big chaos bolt at something. The cast sound for shadow burn is aweful as well. HATE IT. Especially next to sound of chaos bolt which is great.
  1. Just remove channel demonfire. I absolutely hate channel spells. Not a single one from any class ever feels good to press. You click it, and just watch a bar tick down. Channel demon fire is especially bad. The sound is lame, the way the little bolts don’t even go directly at your target makes it feel like you aren’t actually do any damage. Like, screw this spell. I’d be happy to never have to click it again. The passive version is fine I guess, but the only thing I like about it is that it reduces the amount of time spent recasting dots.
  2. Soul fire. Also a good candidate for a replacement for rain of fire. When it hits a target, it explodes dealing AoE damage and applying immolate/wither. Hell, have a modifier talent that makes it cast a weak rain of fire with it. Weak, so that its less punishing if a tank has to move a pack of mobs out of the rain of fire. Just really needs the cast time reduced, 4 seconds runs into the territory of “so long, you get bored waiting for it”. And can be a pain in the butt when half of the mechanics in game are about moving out of, or into, a circle.

Not a direct solution as the cast time would cause you to generate way faster than you can spend.

We already have a single target spender: Chaos Bolt. Having 2 single target spenders is extremely conflicting. Either:

  • Make it a big spender worth pressing and have a longer CD
  • Or just delete it
