I like both specs a ton.
So if I were to decide which to play based on DPS output…which one is generally the best?
They both seem to be doing quite well on multiple fights in the raid so far, tbh.
Like, Demo is cranking in single-target and Destro is demolishing anywhere they can get good Havoc use or burst down adds (while also doing solid single-target damage).
Play both.
Not only is it fun to be able to play both specs well, but it’s optimal this raid tier.
If you really want to focus on one or the other, destro seems to be doing quite well in this raid.
yeah, thats what I decided to do, lol.
Ive got two locks so Im just putting each in one of the two specs and leaving it.
Really hard to decide which I like better of the two, lol
if you wanna save yourself the headache just go Destro. Blizz killed Demo and even for me who loves demo, i can’t go back to it after playin destro for a while.
yeah…kinda going that route. I overlooked the Shadowburn talent, somehow, that makes Destro a bit more ‘complete’ it feels like.
Both are doing pretty good. If I wasn’t so into demo. I would say destro.
Just something about that last talent for tyrant damage of health of demons that I feel might get adjustments the longer this expansion goes but just speculation for now.
Demo definitely has a great personality to the spec.
I like using entropy as im using Madness of the Azjaquir so those with conflag makes my follow up chaos bolt a killshot most of the time.
I’d say Demo just because its more fun. I feel destro gets utterly repetitive and boring after a while.
They’re both strong pve wise, destro probably easier to get the results you want. But demo pulls ahead far more often when you learn to manage your spells with movement.
On most of the fights, you can play either spec and do well. If you look at warlock rankings and go boss by boss, there’s a healthy mix of the two in 8/10 of them in heroic. There aren’t enough mythic kills yet to make a judgment call there unless you’re one of the types to just go with whatever Limit did. (Which, as it happens, was also a mix of Demo/Destro switching between fights)
Destro is bad on Guardian of the First Ones and on phase 3 Sylvanas (which is where all meaningful progress occurs on heroic). Destro’s not unplayable on those fights, but you will do considerably more damage as Demo if you know how to play it.
On the other hand, while Demo can put up good numbers on Kel’Thuzad, it’s not the most useful spec in a fight that’s all about add control when they’re spread all over the room.
Most warlocks switch to Destro for Eye of the Jailer, but I personally prefer Demo now, having done kills in both. You don’t get to cleave the intermission eyes in mythic (or even in lower difficulties if the tanks don’t pull them together specifically for your damage. And the boss’s cast sequence makes it awkward to get good havoc cleave on the other add while the tank is kiting it to dodge the boss’s laser.
Both specs are great! They just excel at different things, and you may want to prioritize your main based of what you like doing the most:
Demonology is the better single target dps. They have short, mini-cooldowns that enables a very sustained and reliable damage train. Their damage is primarily in their demons attacks and thus, even if they themselves cannot attack, their dps doesn’t suffer as much if just a short period. They can go from pull to pull keeping their dps largely the same each time.
Destruction is the better cleave dps. They have long, heavy burst cooldowns that enable mega chaos bolt damage whenever they have infernal/soul up, and may mean downtime where you’re just building up to a chaos bolt and not much else. Their damage is primarily in chaos bolt, so having to move a ton may hurt their ability to dps. They are best with 2 or 3 big targets as opposed to many smaller ones, as their Havoc ability lets you sling multiple chaos bolts at a time for almost unbeatable cleave damage. Their single target isn’t as great as a demonology’s maximum, but it is still above average.
Overall, the two specs are statistically performing neck-and-neck, and you will succeed in game mastering either. It’s just on you to pick!
