Destro lock vs boomy

Hello,

I am planning to boost a druid but I am afraid to make a bad decision. I see that boomy is very similar to destruction in terms:

  • Both hits hard (star surge and chaos bolt)
  • Both are tanky but it seems druid has more self healing.
  • Druid has better mobility.
  • Druid can be healer.
  • Druid has more perks

So my questions are:

  1. What do warlocks brings on the table that druid do not?
  2. Which one is better at pvp?
  3. Which one has better and fun rotation in your opinion?

summon “wardrobe” and heal stone :v

Warlocks I think have a lot bigger hitting spells. They cast slower but hit harder, they have health stones and summons. An aoe stun, fear, pet utility. Imo I love casters, and warlocks have 3 unique dps specs. You have plenty of flavor to choose from without much gear needing changed.

I don’t think you can say one is better than the other at pvp. Destro and boomy are very competitive right now but it depends on comp and who vs

I like boomy rotation better. I love the 2 dots, 2 seperate fillers, and star surge/starfall.
Lock rotation is just conflag and flame blast one + chaos bolts. I also love druid trees and other fun spells like typhoon.

Destro is better in arena, no contest.

Balance can’t clone starsurge and send it flying to more than one enemy, so that’s a huge loss on current raid design Blizzard loves to cramp with adds and minibosses while boomkin dots are very meh.
Druid self healing is meh vs warlock godmode cooldowns and passive shields with high hp, I have seen locks eat Mythic Za’qul tentacles to the face and just shrug it off over and over.
Locks have far better mobility if it’s predictable.
Druids perks are mostly outdoor world stuff.

Fun is subjective, but destro are way better than boomkin and you have 2 other range specs to fall back on, specially if you are the only warlock in a group, you are suddenly irreplaceable.

warlock bring 3 different ranged styles, if you get bored of one you have other options, but if you dont absolutely love ranged caster gameplay, than pick druid. Druid give you diversity, but in limited styles.

I love both classes/specs, tbh, but if you’re going to pick one or the other I’d definitely go with druid. Warlock is fun, but it underperforms in a lot of content right now, and has some issues that can be very annoying and troublesome.

Druid, on the other hand, is in a very good place right now.

Warlocks bring healthstones, summons, and lock gates. Gates are required for certain bosses in mythic. (For example; Mythic G’huun required 4 warlocks)

Druids bring mass roots (or typhoon), innervate, and can tank/heal if you get bored with dps. Mass roots are required for certain bosses in mythic as well. (for example, BFD King Mechagnome required 1-2 druids with mass root for adds) I will note that innervate is seldom used and is not as game changing as healthstones.

Right now in PvP (especially in arena) Destro Warlocks are flavor of the month because they are so strong. Boomkins are not competitive in high end arena right now. Healers are ALWAYS sought after in PvP, so resto druid will always have a spot in competitive PvP as well. (keep in mind that what is strong in PvP changes each patch)

Rotations are not significantly different. Most casters play similarly… you build up resources and spend them, you keep DoTs up, you use certain spells during proc windows, and you use our cooldowns during burst windows.

Best option is to play both for awhile, and see which one you enjoy more. Ranged is ALWAYS needed in raiding, doesn’t matter which spec. For competitive PvP, there is always a flavor of the month class/spec that changes all the time.

If you’re questioning whether you want to play a certain class and have to come to the forums asking whether you should do it or not… Then that class isn’t for you.

You obviously want to play a Warlock, so play a Warlock.

“I like the Druid, but I think it will be a bad decision. This other class that I like better though might be a better choice… Do you think I should play the Druid or the class that I want to play?”

Kind of what this post sounds like. Kind of seems like you’ve made your mind up already.

If you’re asking the forums about how each class plays, then that means you’re not at a stage in the game where it’s going to matter. Play the class you enjoy, and enjoy it. You’re not going to be min/maxing and doing top tier content, so which class hits slightly harder isn’t a concern for you. Play the one that looks and feels cooler.

If you want actual answers to your questions instead of “Play the class you prefer”. Here’s what I got for you.

Warlocks have pets. Pets can tank. Non-Guardian Druids don’t make good tanks. Period. They can hold aggro for a minute, but are very squishy and don’t last as tanks. Warlock pets can be healed by healers and their Warlock. Warlocks also supply Health Stones, Soul Stones, and Summons. Druids can combat rez as well, but a Warlock can put it on a tank or healer before the fight any not have to worry about it.

Warlocks have consistently been good at pvp. One of their specs will always dominate. If you’re mostly interested in Boomkin, and Destruction, I would say Warlock. Warlocks can sit in the back and nuke people. Not to mention fear is extremely handy. They also have access to a teleport spell which is nice. (Although Druids do have the root/snare removal which is REALLY nice.)

As for rotation, I would say Druid is more dynamic. They focus more on procs, and what is useful right now rather than 1,2,2,2,3,2,2,2,3… Like a Warlock would. Warlocks build up Soul Stones, and use them for their heavy hitting spells. Druids don’t have to worry about not having resources (they build it really quickly compared to Warlocks) and have a lot more proc abilities. I personally find Druids to be more fun.

Mythic plus, mainly.

But they’re amazing in M+,they are just not FOTM.

If they were actually, they would be.
