Hey guys,
Came back to wow a little over month ago after a couple years. Always played Destro in Arena.
Geared up got my tier S3 set, and got into a flow playing destro with rift talent. Was a bit of learning curve on old play style. Never had to kite/port/curse as much, as well as juking for precog.
As soon as I felt like I was back in the swing of wow arena after so long, the season ended. (Lol I have the worst timing).
Season 4 begins & tier set changed to giving extra crit damage on Chaos bolts, and removing rift set bonus.
I know it’s too early in the season to tell, & many locks enjoyed our S3 tier set, but I’m hoping to hear from any other Destro locks on there plan for this season in arena, and SS.
Read forums & watched streams on how good destro was throughout the last season, & now all streams everyone has swapped to Aff or still playing demo.
Are there any destro locks out there planning to push this season? if so, what comp will you be running? What talents will you be changing & will your play style change? I.e less incinerates & more bolts etc?
P.s this isn’t a complaining post! I’m just trying to hear from others more knowledgeable as I haven’t been back long. Excuse the rambling/struggling to get to the point lol.
TLDR: how is Destro lock looking in Arena for Season 4? & what changes to gameplay are you implementing to make it viable if losing S3 tier set effected you?
I think destro locks by the end of this season will mostly be playing with 0 tier but full haste mastery gear(without letting vers drop below 30%) and play chaos incarnate and just lob 600k chaos bolts

I’m already playing haste mastery lock with 27% vers and my high bolts are 350k, max 380k but rarely. I don’t have 4 set yet but I imagine with absolute bis gear it’ll be like 420k bolts at best. Super underwhelming.

Most of his bolts are 250k. I’m sure that 600 had a skyfury and probably hit someone with low vers. Not to mention full mastery is unplayable. No lock above 2k (in 3s) will be hitting more than like 450k bolts, and that’s being generous.

40% haste 100% mastery with 30% vers is a realistic expectation we could see destros running later in season
my current stats, 44% haste, 63% mastery, 27% haste. i have 6 green pieces. 6 pieces and sockets will not make my mastery 100%, not even close. Itll be like 80% max.

You might still want to play 4 set as it buffs bolt damage more than using mastery pieces. I have 4set on one of my locks, i can test it but even with 2set i got up to 350k bolts. Not taking set even though it is really underwhelming is kinda troll.

Full buffed bolts aren’t feeling that impactful to me, at a cost of speccing out of general dmg pressure talents like burn to ashes. Combined with having to sacrifice some haste or vers, by the time you land a 400k bolt, you haven’t put out much overall pressure so it doesn’t do much. Feels like it’s fine in 2s, but 3v3 and even SS, it’s not feeling impactful yet.
Not using tier set for more mast to buff chaos bolts seems off because tier set buffs bolt dmg and it’s crit proc increase buffs it further.
Maybe in full high end Mythic gear it’ll work without sacrificing haste/vers, but full conq gear? Idk.
I think destro is still really good, especially when they get max gear.
Main reason I feel i encounter less destro locks is that they now have to cast more to do their damage compared to last seasons tier as burst came from rifts.
Also the ladder meta matches aff and demo slightly better than destro. Destro doesn’t damp as well now due to tier change and its easier to lock down their damage then it is for demo or aff.

I don’t think max gear helps, other people also get max gear and you’ve seen in awc (yeye, insane players, but only demo’s been looked at. Nobody’s touched aff/destro. It’s a bit binned. You have to play out of your mind to win whilst that boomie/x rogue/x RETS. or w/e can make more mistakes / play dumber than you.

It absolutely isn’t. I got hit for 400k RSK meanwhile my highest bolt was 372k which is a complete joke. But i only have 2set so far on the character i played destro on. Idk, i guess the damage comes when you have full gear with craft items etc. So far destro feels to be the weakest specc.

Exactly how I’m feeling. And in order to to have bolts at this damage you have to spec into it, losing talents that can buff your incin/conflag damage.
Feels like I generate zero pressure to finally lob some bolts and they fall flat.
If I spec out of big bolt and opt for multi target pressure, without rift tier set im basically a worse version of aff. (Aside from having the benefit of more spell schools)

You lose some micro pad from petsac and immolate dot but its not a big deal.
You can still burst people with full haste vers rift build with same talent build i linked except replace chaos incarnate with rift.
Thanks for this. I’m considering trying a destro lock, and I’ve been reluctant as I’m fearful of the slow slog of trying to toss out chaos bolts.

Thanks for suggestion I’m gonna give this build ago today and see how it feels against afew different comps
