Can this be cast on allies as a shadowpriest? and in shadow form?
Desperate Prayer only applies to yourself. However, Halo, Flash Heal, Power Word: Shield, and Renew can all be cast on allies.

Pretty nifty defensive actually!
Not especially - many other classes get immunities, bulky shields or 30-40% DRs which pack a lot more punch as damage scales. For a defensive, Desperate Prayer is still among the weakest and could still use a buff, even making Light’s Inspiration baseline wouldn’t be out of line.
Fun fact, I didn’t even use desperate prayer until this expansion. I didn’t even know what it was and just didn’t bother with it.
So, when I say it is a nifty defensive, it is coming from that kind of perspective lol.
I think I first discovered its amazingness (again, coming from a super squishy noob) during fort week in shadowmoon. I think that using it was the only way I survived those two purple pillow cloud guys before the last boss.
What’s funny is you probably weren’t penalized too much for not using it - it’s probably the rare situation where the Desperate Prayer portion of your “oh sh-” button is really going to be the difference. Thankfully they started baking a lot of the real values a personal should have into Fade.
I think I only started running keys consistently in season 2 of shadowlands. I did some here and there in season 1 and some in BFA but I wasn’t pushing because I was playing mostly by myself back then.
I do like how fade has become beefier too. That priest talent that also gives you 10% DR is pretty nice too. I use fade and DP a lot nowadays. During root affix week, I grumble about wasting fade on it though lol.
So kind of the catch 22 with Priest defensives is the hardest hitting boss abilities are physical damage in M+. I only have 11% armor so I’m taking 20-30% more damage than mail/plate wearers which makes the whole 20% DR + PWS thing just wash out the difference.
Yea, they are like bandaid defensives probably because of their low CD/accessibility. Those 3 things, plus DP are the please don’t kill me buttons. I do like to use DP and then symbol for the next chunky boss move but then you are just hoping that there are only 2 lol.
I have seen some priests play with the shield trinket that drops in the raid. That is probably handy to make up for our squishiness too I guess.
