I was just wondering if anyone was experiencing the same issue this morning before I create a support ticket. I’ve also restarted the client as well as my PC. I’ve also tried pausing the WoW updates to allow the desktop application to finish, but with no luck. Both the PTR and live versions are displaying the same problem.
Have you tried switching to the beta version of the desktop app to see if you can get out of this update loop?
Click the BLIZZARD logo in the top left corner, choose SETTINGS.

Then go to the BETA option on the very bottom and you can choose to switch to the beta version from there. It will update to that version and restart the launcher.
What i would do is log off the app fresh computer restart then try relogging.
I just had it happen to me.
First try rebooting your computer.
If it’s still giving issues, unintall and restall the Battlenet launcher.
Reboot after reinstalling.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and now the installer is experiencing the same looping. I’m probably going to have to elevate it to tech support unfortunately. Thanks everyone for the help!
Hey, all! We’re currently looking into this issue with the latest patch. In the mean time, we’ve seen this help some of the BLZBNTAGT00000840 errors in the past. Could you give these a try if you’re running into this error?
- Restart the computer.
- Open Task Manager CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and end the WoW Voice Proxy process.
Based on some of the logs we were able to gather, it seems that this may be a DNS problem. If the problem continues, does it help to disable or enable a VPN or try an alternative connection?
Since my initial post I’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps with no luck.
- Uninstalling / reinstalling bnet app
- Performed all tasks recommended in the BLZBNTAGT00000840 thread
- Attempted to start the download while connected to a VPN
- Attempted to start the download while tethered into my phones data
- Released and renewed IP and flushed my DNS cache
- Ran a scan and repair on the game files
- Changed DNS server to ISP default
- Attempted to join the battle.net desktop beta - “There aren’t any beta features to test right now.”
- Attempted to stop / close WoW Voice Proxy but the service was not running
Open to more suggestions lol!
For me it is stuck at initializing. Won’t go past that. Start up the launcher, and it just says Initializing. Been stuck like that for an hour or so now.
Same for me. Stuck at initializing.
From what it looks like the POST request to update to the newest version is returning a 404 error. DNS analysis to the patch server returns a 404 as well. @Caterpepi would you like me to provide logs?
Our team should have logs on there end already, but it never hurts to gather some additional information in case it may be needed later on. Hibb, did you have any luck on a different connection or changing the DNS? If not, feel free to send over a log goblin file over to techinfo@blizzard.com with the subject, ATTN: Caterpepi - Failed to Update Error [623425].
For everyone else, if the wowvoiceproxy.exe service is closed and restarting doesn’t seem to help, please feel free to send over the Log Goblin files as well. We can add this over to our tracking for our team if needed.
In the mean time, some of the suggestions on this article or a fresh reinstall of the game - while not ideal - should fix this error.
Fresh install is a no go. Immediate BLZBNTAGT00000BB8 followed by loop of scan/repair
I got fed up and reformatted my PC which solved the issue. Still don’t know what caused it but it’s fixed, lol.
