A Personal Tabard has been datamined on Wowhead for 10.2.7. This tabard allows you to create and customize your own tabard with whatever you want on it (with the limits of the tabard design system).
I really hope that is happening! People have been asking for various tabard designs for years and the tabard system has not been touched - maybe ever.
I am also hoping that if they give us this Personal Tabard that they overhaul and update the tabard system. Wishlist of mine:
Updated graphics for all existing tabard icons.
New icons, border graphics, and tabard styles.
Earnable tabard graphics and tabard effects (like a glowing dragon). Quests, achievements, dungeons, and raids can all be sources of various earned tabard graphics or effects.

Fantastic if it happens and there are some characters I’d definitely wear this on (others don’t and likely never will wear a tabard as part of their transmog).
Also, won’t be surprised or that disappointed if it doesn’t happen; data mining is no guarantee of features actually showing up.
It does exist for guilds! However, only the Guild Master can set the tabard design and graphics. So unless every character of yours is in their own guild, you can’t have a Personal tabard design. Wearing your guild tabard may clash horribly with your mog.
The Tabard system is REALLY outdated which is why I hope IF they do this, it comes with tabard graphics and system updates.
I wonder if it will allow us to make recolors of tabards like the Scarlet crusade tabard but idk…blue or green or something? I’d love one that has like a Vulpera on it I could have different colored ones for each vulpera in my warband. There is potential especially since I don’t see a lot of legit guilds advertising anymore and I keep getting the sneaky whisper trying to convince me to join some PvP guild when I don’t like PvP. I mean I’d maybe join a guild and wear their colors if it was like a bundle of players playing to have fun and hang out together…not some group of folk demanding I play their way like a lot of guilds sadly seem to be acting lately. I play to have fun not stress out on mechanics or be forced to install addons only to still not get to raid for whatever reason. Personal tabards could be rather nice all the same
I don’t know about recolors of iconic faction tabards. That might be a bit lore “breaking” so to speak.
I am really hoping the Personal Tabard ends up being put in though, and that the Tabard system as a whole gets some nice upgrades to graphics, new designs, tabard styles, earned tabard effects/rewards, etc.
It would solve a lot of the “make a tabard with X on it” request threads!
I did not have to bribe, but yeah I had a lot to do with the tabard. The limitations of the current, very old, system though are kind of obvious. We need updated graphics, tabard styles, and additional images!
I have all my digits crossed this datamine ends up happening.
I hope this happens, though I hope they add more images and a better way to cycle through them.
