Could be a rune made from a tweaked talent/spell from a later expac.

Hardmode: Custom rune spell/passive that isn’t taken from a previously existing talent/spell from later expansions.

Hunter trap that acts like the goblin landmines from Aszhara.
some AOE fire damage / Launches enemy players a great distance :slight_smile:

Don’t look at me for Rune names, but this is what I’d like to see on a Paladin:

Rune #1
Your Flash of Light spell also increases the damage of your Seal of Righteousness by 200% for 15 seconds.

Rune #2
Your Seal of Righteousness grants a 15% chance on hit to reset the cooldown of Holy Shock

Rune #3
Your attack power is increased by 100% of your spell power.

Big Stomper

Increases damage done to dwarves and gnomes by 20%

Decreases damage done to trolls and Tauren by 20%

Anklebiter

Vice versa

Not really a thought out idea but maybe take something from Druids in D2 and give it to Druids in WoW. Like Summons, Tornado, Molten Boulder could be interesting giving druids a different elemental spell.

Spriest:

Shadow Emissary (or Void Emissary)

You bring yourself to the precipice of sanity in order to empower your Shadowform for 20 seconds. While this ability is active, your shadow damage with spells and effects is increased by an additional 10% and Mind Flay’s periodic damage restores 3% mana per tick. Additionally, all healing you receive is reduced by 50%.

This ability may be cancelled at any time by casting it again. Upon expiration or cancellation, you will erupt in a shadowy explosion dealing <damage amounts per second spent in form, up to a maximum> to nearby enemies.

Can only be cast while in Shadowform.

I made one rune for each class that I think would be fun new playstyle or benefit without being OVERPOWERED:

Warrior
Rune of Brawling

Your chance to critically strike while wielding Fist Weapons is increased by 5%.

In addition, while using Fist Weapons or while disarmed, you gain 10% attack speed and your Heroic Strike becomes Heroic Punch, an instant unarmed melee attack that deals 30% of your Attack Power + 50 Physical damage and costs 12 Rage. Heroic Punch has a 15% chance to knock down your target.

Shaman
Rune of Shattering Thunder

You gain the Shattering Thunder ability, a two-handed weapon attack which instantly deals 70% weapon damage and leaves behind a small area of electrically-charged earth under the target that silences enemies and deals 30% of your Attack Power as Nature damage every second for 3 seconds. 10 second cooldown.

Warlock
Rune of Fel Infusion

Channel fel energy into your demon pet for 3 seconds, after which it becomes empowered with corruption, increasing its size, health, and damage by 100% for 20 seconds. While corrupted, your pet leaks fel energy, dealing Fire damage to all nearby enemies every second. 2 minute cooldown.

Mage
Rune of Mirror Images

Creates 3 copies of the caster nearby, which cast spells and attack the mage’s enemies or heal the mage’s allies. Lasts 20 seconds. 3 minute cooldown.

Druid
Rune of Allied Wildlife

Your abilities have a chance to call an ally of nature to your aid for 30 seconds. The animal summoned varies depending on your current form:

Cat Form - Summons a Barrens albino snake that poisons your target and grants you 10% attack speed.

Bear or Dire Bear Form - Summons a Darkshore bear cub that grants you increased threat and rage generation.

Moonkin Form - Summons a Winterspring owl that causes your target to take 15% increased Arcane damage.

Non-Shapeshifted - Summons a Moonglade moth that grants your next 3 spells 75% reduced mana cost.

(3 minute internal cooldown)

Priest
Rune of Righteousness

Your Shadow Word: Pain ability becomes Holy Word: Chastise, dealing holy damage instead of shadow and increasing the critical strike chance of Holy spells on the target by 5%. In addition, your Smite spell refreshes the duration of the damage-over-time component of your Holy Fire.

Hunter
Rune of Disengage

You attempt to disengage from combat, leaping backwards. Can only be used while in combat. 35 second cooldown.

Paladin
Rune of Dawning Light

Send a wave of holy energy before you, healing up to 3 of the most injured targets in your party or raid within a 10 yard frontal cone for 30% of your Healing effects, and damaging up to 3 enemies for up to 30% of your Spell power. 15 second cooldown. 21% of base Mana.

Rogue
Rune of Metsubishi (Blinding Sand)

Your Blind ability now deals 30% of your Agility as Nature damage in an 8 yard frontal cone. Poisoned enemies hit by Blinding Sand have a 100% chance to be disoriented for up to 3 seconds. Generates a high amount of threat. Costs 15 Energy. 30 second cooldown.

Hunter Rune:

One with the Beast - Fuse with your pet, unlocking new abilities based on pet Class.

Basically you get the passive and spell from each of the pet classes based on which pet you “fuse” with. On top of that, you the kind of abilities pets of that class normally get.

Like Tenacity pets would get a dmg reduction cooldown and maybe a melee cleave and a single target slow.

Cunning would get a version of Evade and a couple of single target melee abilities. They’d get their own version of Mortal Strike, called “Savage Rend”. Maybe some sort of ranged poison attacks.

Ferocity could get abilities that can be used in either melee or ranged. Removing the hunter’s weakness, but also not giving them any defensive abilities. Maybe make the couple of range neutral abilities into bleeds.

If he can make a better hunter rune. Lol

Not a custom thing at all but “One with Nature”, allows druid to teleport to “random natural locations.” it would just be kinda neat seeing other druids possibly out at these weird spots and might also be slightly decent for personal travel.
