Deserter debuff needs changed

Friend, we are arguing similar points. Trust me, I think the system has many flaws. My very first response explained the three camps of people who are going to respond to you.

Do I fully agree with the system, absolutely not.

The funniest and most ridiculous reason I have ever been kicked for was literally nothing. I queued in with my husband and he told me that I’m getting kicked. I asked why and there was just a random jumbled of letters.

It sucks. No doubt.

I’m trying to let you know that whether or not you, others, and I agree or disagree with the system…no amount of complaining is going to change it.

A. Not everyone is going to believe that there is abuse.

B. Not everyone is going to believe that things like this happen all the time.

C. Many are just not going to care.

Brace for impact, because I’m being very diplomatic… others are probably not going to be.

Oh, things have been changed due to complaining in the past, this is just one of those that is a harder nut to crack due to human nature.

Because there is no abuse, at worst it is misuse. The difference being misuse is using something incorrectly, like kicking someone just for the race they have, or putting nonsense reasons as the reasons. Abuse on the other hand is a pattern of negative behavior. Misuse might be easier to prove, abuse not so much.

Even I don’t believe that, but human nature tends to focus on the negative or, in this case, the times it does happen. I could be 1 out of 1.000,000,000 but that one will be the focus for some.

I agree with everything that you just said.

I see flagrant misuse of the kick system, but again… not everyone is going to see that.

Trust me, I’ve been here before. Forums (the player) could probably tell you some horror stories about these types of threads.

The most common answer you will get is… it’s working as intended. Yes, they are willing to die on that hill too.

I wish you luck on your thread. I hope our interaction helps lessen the blow of others.

And I’m honestly not trying to be passive aggressive, I’m trying to provide insight and support to you for the interactions that will come after mine.

I don’t think the game can differentiate on why you disconnect vs. the group just not wanting to play with you.

We have AI now, but I think we’re still years if not decades away from THAT kind of AI, like the Minority Report kind.

Which is why I took the added interaction angle, like for all the strides that have been made in automation, we still need a human factor, like “do you want to kick x” and “do you think x should get the debuff”. The issue is, the debuff does need to be in place to keep from returning to the early days, when tanks would refuse to do oculus and more or less force the kick to avoid the debuff.

Agreed. Things are so nerfed in these groups that it’s almost pointless to have a debuff at all.

Alas, it’s there.

:disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed::disappointed:

I’ve always thought that the debuff should stay, but it shouldn’t wear off if you change toons or log out.

It’s how rez sick works in Classic, to where you take the 10 min. debuff, but you HAVE to wait out the whole 10 min. on that toon for it to come off, as opposed to just switching/logging and waiting out the 30 min. doing something else.

Now I’m not advocating for a 30 min. “Stay on this toon” debuff, but 15 min. should suffice for a real learning experience, rather than just “Oh I can just switch, it’s no biggie”.

I wish they would come out with a system to where if the person that initiates the kick gives a bad reason for it, then they would pay a penalty and it would stack. But alas, we’re not there yet, lol.

I’d rather have it so that if a VTK fails, the one who initiated it is the one that gets kicked, same debuff and everything.

That could work, but at the same time, if you’re in a run with 3 guildies (not yours) and one of the members is trolling or acting like a windbag, and you initiate then you get kicked because it would fail.

I like the idea, but it would never work, but keep thinking though, we’ll come up with something.

EH, just a simple “it has to be unanimous” in premades that are 3 members, and the VTK becomes an abandon instance instantly in the case of a 4 man premade to counter that.

That won’t work out, because it’ll still create an issue of people trying to cheese the system, get out of runs they don’t want to be in without debuffs, while creating even more drama over giving someone a debuff.

Just shorten the debuff to 15 minutes.

Sad, but true, I think a lot of the issue might be fixed with just a different set of rules for the VTK for TW instances. These are the instances that people might not want to be in, but are more likely to rush through as fast as possible, and the debuff is more noticeable as TW is also what people try to get done, weekly quest wise, as fast as possible,

This why previous system was good. Less punishing for players just caught up in thr system for reasons beyond their control.

The debuff should be account wide…

My secret to forgetting the VTK system exists: I only play with friends.

your suggestion would just let trolls abuse the system harder.

You will often hear a response similar to:

“Well Ive never seen kicks/ been kicked like that”

You are around 1/1,000,000 th of the population. your sample is not that big.

however the reverse is also true. Me being kicked is just an 1/1,000,000 th of the population. but with a sample size of around a million players, I think it is safe to say that this happens a lot across the globe, all the time.

Blizzard would have kick logs if they cared to look at them all which they don’t. Would tell if a kick is a bad kick or a justified kick. I’ve seen a lot of nonsense kicks. Like “u suck.” “Lol.” “Stupid.” etc. But then again no one cares. Till someone cares nothing changes.

I completely agree with you.

Every player experiences things differently.

Just completed five TW dungeons and we all actually stuck together, which was amazing because we kept wiping.

I wish I could see more of this. Everyone was patient and understanding.

However, this is a unicorn to me. Not often I see this, but I truly appreciate it when it happens.
