Derek a sleeper agent?

Its a wild stab but something that wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility.

After all why would a prisoner who hasn’t been programed and locked up in a cage be armed with a knife? Seems like a crucial little detail to me.

Its pretty likely that Sylvanas already brainwashed him, and let Baine return him to the alliance to make infiltrating him easier. Which is why Nate just said to go along with Baine’s plan if you tell in him.

I would be disappointed if he wasn’t.

On another note, Derek is one sexy undead beast, I’m sure Sylvanas has noticed.

Which leads to the real rebellion against Sylvanas: my forsaken, bones exposed and jaw hanging loose, looks at Derek Proudmoore, Sylvi, Blightcaller, and the new Dark Rangers- “Dark Lady, can we talk about upgrades?”

It would make sense. I don’t know much about programing someone’s mind but if the programmer had access to the targets past history say…by way of someone like Lady Ashvane who may been around while raising them then you could almost hide anything.

I’d of killed Derek as Alliance personally. Too great a risk to take anything that’s been in the Dark Lady’s hands.

I think that’s why it will turn out that she let Baine return him to the Alliance. They would of suspected something if it was anyone else.

This way blizzard can pat themselves on the back for being as clever as anyone with access to tvtropes . org

I’m betting Derek is a sleeper. Maybe a tragic unwitting sleeper, but a sleeper nonetheless.

He’ll get close to his family, kill Katherine and try and kill Jaina, the players and Jaina kill him and just before he dies he regains himself, apologizes tearfully and fully dies.

Jaina goes into a fit vows vengeance against the Horde and their allies starting with the Zandalari then Azshara shows up and that all has to wait a patch.

I think he is an unwitting sleeper agent yes. They did a subtle shot of the dagger behind his back, which lowkey foreshadows it.

I actually wonder if the true target is Calia, as Sylvanas may want to finish her off. Perhaps something will trigger him to assassinate someone.

I don’t think a Proudmoore is going to get hurt. Tandred leads the official Kul Tiran flagship, Jaina is Lord Admiral, and Katherine voices the Kul Tiran introduction.

Katherine is the most likely to bite the dust if it does happen, but it would really just be unnecessary drama. She’s the only prominent maternal figure in the game right now.

I think it’s likely that he will do something to the fleet. It would balance out the factions again so that no one wins the war before it’s time for us to put aside our differences and be friends again to murder some naga.

Maybe, although I think Azshara will be the one to wreck the Alliance fleet.

I’m honestly thinking this is just more and more of a symptom of them noting having the proper Forsaken rigging to do these sort of cinematics. Showing expressive emotion on basic Forsaken faces would be fairly difficult, considering many of them are outright missing large chunks of their face.

Beyond that, meh … him being incinerated completely was never really confirmed. We saw him get hit by dragon fire, but if Blizz “really” wanted to play with that idea they could have just said the Blast-Wave knocked him out of that tiny crows nest he was in. He’d still be dead from the heat, but there would be a body left at least (though how that body wasn’t eaten by aquatic life I have no idea)…

Derek being a sleeper agent is a level of storytelling depth that Blizzard just doesn’t do. You might want a bottle of Chateau Lafite Bordeaux… but Blizzard will invariably serve you some grape-flavored Kool-Aid in a plastic cup.

I think he’s just a vehicle, along with Calia Menethil, to give Alliance Lightforged Undead.

Just watch.

Mama Proudmoore is gonna go visit him at Calia’s place and get stabbed.

At the end of the cinematic it was made clear that derek wouldn’t be going home in his current state, and that he would be taken to the Lightforgers, to be exorcised so-to-speak.

If they wanted to be really clever they could use the minor lore bit about the Light hurting undead to push Derek to consciously choose the Forsaken.
Because how much torture would Lightforging cause to an undead.

If anything they REALLY highlighted the fact he had a knife strapped to his back, I’d be surprised if that wasn’t intentional. A really cunning move if it’s true. Sylvanas gets rid of Baine and plants Derek right where she wants him.

He is a sleep agent for the light, he will stab Jaina when the lightbound and all the naarus start to invade Azeroth

Here is my theory on it.

Derek is a sleeper agent ,but Jaina sends him to Calia to get some healing and becomes light undead. And right before Sylvanas try’s to activate him but sees hes lightbound kinda tosses a stone in her evil plan.

Calia comes out of the shadows and goes. “Stop trying to be Arthas. he was way better at this then you are.”

Can I be a WoW writer now?
