Deposit cost on hardened elementium bar

If I try to sell for 700g (not very high considering the mat costs) I get a 140g deposit! Regardless of 12,24,48 hours selected. 20% seems sort of steep! As a comparison if I set white trillium ore at 700g the deposit is a mere 1 silver! Any particular reason for this?

Bear in mind, if the item sells your deposit is returned.

This is a change made specifically to discourage pages and pages of auctions of one item stacks. Deposit is calculated per listing, not per unit.
How does it prevent that? I can already do pages and pages of white trillium ore at 1 silver deposit if I so desired. I just want to sell one hardened elementium bar for a very modest profit margin, why should I have to risk a hefty 140g deposit in case it doesn't sell?

Did you see the AH before this change? 90% of the listings were of single items. The amount of bloat that the servers had to track was unrealistic because of pointless AH single stacks. Now for the most part, it's fixed.

It is based off the vendor price of the item and white trillium really isn't an issue because the supply really is very limited. But when there was pages and pages and pages of one riverbud because people were trying to manipulate the ah then it was a problem.

And it's a stupid thing to do. I don't even use the AH to sell anything, but there are better ways to handle one item up pages...like FILTERS for gods sake. "Don't show any auctions with only X items" where the user can define...even 1-10 items...

if someone wants to list pages of 1 item, they can without penalty (there shouldn't be a penalty, sorry), but people have the option to not look at them....

Trust me...if people filtered and didn't look at them, people would stop posting pages of 1 item auctions.

But no, penalize people who actually only have one item to try and sell...

Stupid..STUPID idea.

The thing is, those people are in the vast, vast minority compared to the armies of AH bots putting up 100 listings of single item stacks. Blizzard has said they want to rework the AH from the ground up, but that's not gonna be any time soon.

The problem with that is filters would still have to scan the entire auction house to know which auctions to exclude. Single stacks put a strain on the auction house system as a whole, and unless you make the practice unsustainable you only risk making the AH even worse to use.

It's not a perfect solution, and there are still a number of people who insist on being a pain in the rear, but auction house lag isn't nearly as bad as it used to be.
I could put up an epic armor for sale at 10000g and the deposit is only 7g. So why does one hardened elementium bar for 700g have a deposit of 140g?
