IMO - it is very fun to play, and when played right, can do enough dmg to keep your spot in the raid. My $ 0.02.
PvP though... you may want to go Aff. Demo can do perfectly fine if ignored which makes them alright for random bgs, but their demon swarms may draw unwanted attention and you'll be useless in arena unless your definition of being useful is trying desperately to survive while your healer keeps you up and hope your other teammates kills them before they kill you.
I also am pretty impressed with Demo in M+. I play in the 12-15 key range and while I'm not nearly as high as the top M+ Warlocks, I can definitely validate Demo's competitiveness in that range. Warrior level AoE burst, decent sustained damage, and solid sustained boss damage is not a bad combo.
Although boss damage burst isn't anything to be impressed by compared with Affliction, Destro, Mages, etc, Demo sustained damage is actually very strong. I can out-sustain Affliction the supposed "king" of ST as Demo so long as the fight movement is predictable
PvP wise, Warlocks aren't in a great spot overall, but they can work. Affliction and sometimes Destro based on comp are generally the way to go to push rating seriously in Arena, but Demo's sustained damage and ability to be a disruptive !@#$%^- to help set up kills for someone with a lot more burst is still useful in Arenas and Soul Link helps it survive a lot of burst that other Warlock specs would struggle against
Also in WPvP, I quest as Demo because I know I can 1v1 most melee and casters as Demo so if some cocky rogue interrupts my questing/herbing and thinks he can mongo me down because "warlock free kill". well that rogue is toast
Mythic raiding aswell, it’s doable, but not close to Affliction, Mages or Hunters. I’m 5/8 Mythic, if you wanna progress far you’ll only Demo on Zek and Zul, Affliction on every other boss, Destro on Vec is good.

This is why i switched to demo in BFA and have yet to be persuaded to change. I keep hearing that the numbers are behind afflic, but i have pretty much been out performing them in every group i've been in. Of course, numbers are one thing. Playing it correctly it something else entirely. And truly loving a spec helps make mastering it much easier.
11/13/2018 02:05 AMPosted by GhazgkulI completely stomp with Demo in every Mythic Uldir fight I've done except for Mother because realistically, all that movement with the winds makes it pretty dang impossible for the other 2 specs to compete with Affliction.
Is Demonic Core still bugged on Mother? The last I saw we aren't getting DC when Dreadstalkers despawn.

Haven't run into that problem yet, but I can confirm the dang pre-cast Demonbolt that only gives 1 shard bug is still a thing
Agree 100%
You should be having him attack mother normally then pull him across the wall to DS when ads are about to come up by using pet follow. Then you use pet attack on mother again to continue your passive dps.
Demo is awesome it’s my main spec I played affliction in legion and when I tried demo in BFA I was amazed how you do not see more people playing this awesome spec. DPS in most cases I find my self on top in M+ and mid pack in raids I’m actually pulling better numbers with demo then I can with the other 2, I think if you seen more people playing the spec you would find the ranking would go up on logs, it takes a good demo to pull good numbers that’s why it’s so rewarding
Wouldn’t say demo is useless in arena. It can put out some nice dps, just lacks any real burst.
Yeah demo has nice dps but the thing is it’s all hardcast. The only way you’ll be able to perform well in arena is if you are completely ignored, which is why they’re alright for BGs where there’s enough people running around that you can hide in the back and freecast. The moment you get even just 1 melee on you’ll start having a hell of a time doing anything. In arena, warlocks are pretty easy kills, especially in 2s and 3s. If you get focus fired by a decent team you might as well be hard cced as you won’t be doing anything
Unfortunately, I think the Sacrificed Souls nerf is going to hit us harder than most realize. The other two options still aren’t very good, and losing 1% damage for each imp out adds up really quickly. Typical Blizzard - nerf the lowest performing spec.
Yeah. Tried that a few times at the beginning of the raid release, but by the time he gets to where he can attack the spawns in the next room, they’re already dead. Then, he has to run all the way back to the boss. Also, Demo takes time to build up. I am lucky to get SBs off before they die, so ss generation takes a hit there also > less imps > less DCs.
I just let him go ape on the boss, and take the performance loss while trying to do what i can to get the kill.
Need to remove timer from DC so we can use as needed. Also make axe throw an interrupt and not a stun.
Probably need a 3-5% DPS buff too with sac souls nerf and generally being behind Destro/aff.
Spec is really fun but won’t be top tier unless aff is nerfed or encounters are redesigned. I don’t see any no movement 5 target stacked cleave bosses happening either. Zul is close for the first 60%
