Demonology’s 21 point talent is counterproductive to its own tree’s entire specialization due to it removing itself upon summoning another pet. It only serves to function as a buff for Affliction and Destruction specs that provides no synergy with no demonology focused runes nor anything else from the entire tree.
Since we’re making changes to game anyway, it’s about time Demonic Sacrifice become usable in it’s own specialization. Maybe making the buff remain on the warlock if they have Soul Link as a talent?
It’s for only strictly when your pet is doing bad damage or not surviving mechanics
It’s a way to play without a pet
Very useful pve talent
The main reason you go that deep into demo this patch is for soul link, which demonic sacrifice completely nullifies. It is only useful for the best pve raiding spec, which is DS/Ruin at level 60.
The talent itself is more of a destruction talent. It only comes online with 42 talent points (ruin + demo sack), so it’ll likely remain a mostly worthless talent until phase 4. But with phase 3 we might get the felguard, and accord to data miners the felguard retains all bonuses that your other demons gain from talents. So if that rune ends up in the game it might be a pretty good end game off-meta talent.
It’ll be interesting to see what fel guard has
Will he have his axe toss stun?
Or just a whirlwind?
Axe toss I’m all for it
No axe toss it’s a loss
Demonic Sacrifice has been meta for Classic era warlocks since 2004, with the exception of a few months in SoM. I’m happy that pets are actually useful now and that it is better to have a pet out than to sacrifice it. Demonic Sacrifice had its time in the sun and can fade away now.
It thankfully won’t be used in SoD due to Demonic Knowledge, Grimoire of Synergy, and pets now scaling to do around 10-15% of your DPS.
Demonic Knowledge is currently giving me 80 spellpower, which is insane. Grimoire of Synergy was just buffed to be a 25% damage increase instead of 5%. We can expect a 40-50% average uptime on that.
DK is just miles away better than any other runes in there
And 25% is nice but still at 5% proc rate is still pretty bad
I’d rather have a 25% chance to proc 5% damage
We’ll see sacrificing an imp for +15% fire damage is very likely to beat out demonic knowledge.
It isn’t close. The Imp by itself does 10-15% of our DPS. Plus 25% of our spellpower from DK. Plus around 10-12% damage boost from Grimoire. You are looking at Demonic Sacrifice being 20-30% less DPS than builds that use a pet.
Well I see a LOT of Warlocks currently using it because there is a thing where they are getting all 4 DS buffs. Which they apparently have decided is “worth it”.
I didn’t think this was intended by the text of the Felguard rune… but apparently since they only patched the changing out of the rune. edit At least I thought I recently saw this hot fixed but maybe not.
