Demonic Wards: damage reduction increased to 15% (was 10%).
Demonic Wards: armor bonus increased to 100% (was 80%).
Demon Spikes: armor reduced to 60% of Agility (was 85%).
Looks like a smoother damage intake. Good start. They really couldn’t buff our passive armor without nerfing DS. But it is a good start.
I’m no math wiz, but its probably pretty close to DS being pretty much not effected.
Huge buff.
Demon Spike was a stupid designed skill that tried to be like shield block in term of mitigation, but failed super hard due to its low uptime/long cd.
I think it further forces mastery to be even worse than it is now.
I think the armor increase would have to be a little more. Say 120. Even though i don’t crunch numbers like some I’ve seen on here. Perhaps one of them could come by and give some good insight.
I don’t know… how well does Mastery contribute to our DPS over other secondaries?
Sure wish we had some DPS CD options like all the other tanks except perhaps BrM do.
Ide rather see Meta get a buff. It’s horrible right now. Just give it an increase to armor. There’s been plenty of awesome suggestions for it. It’s useless compared to all other tank defensive CD.
IMO this change is quite the buff… not getting 2 shot outside of demon spikes is a pretty big deal. Not to mention the 5% DR buff to demonic wards. With void reaver you are looking at a flat 21% DR across physical and magical. Mastery might be weaker but versatility just became even stronger. If it goes as is I think I will aim haste to 15% or so then just straight verse and crit. With enough verse we could be looking at 30+% DR from all sources and some of the highest hp in the game before taking armor or CDs into account. It’s a pretty big deal. No tanks that I am aware of can walk around with 30% magic damage reduction plus healing.
I guess take the bonuses where you can get them. It’s certainly not a nerf. We might take slightly more damage from the massive attacks we were using DS to soak before but to be able to even out the outside damage past that is well worth it. And I only say might because armor has bad deminishing returns that might well make the differences during DS nearly negligible from now. We are looking at a solid buff outside of DS which was the weakest point of our play. Not to mention any buff to base mitigation and armor is a buff to every absorb or heal we get as well.
This is a HUGE buff. FINALLY!!!
Honestly not impressed with these changes.
80% armor buff to 100% armor buff is ~500 armor. ~500 armor?! That’s legit useless.
I currently have 4234 armor and that buff will put me at 4704 armor.
Combined with a 5% passive buff is kinda nice but needs to be move to 20% total damage reduction. I don’t see how 500 more armor and 5% passive damage reduction is going to be that good.
This won’t really do much for us. We will still be bottom tier tank for all content.
Need as Xaedys recommended. 160% armor buff minimum.
When does this go live?
8.2 launch so you’re looking at end of may or early june
I mean…this is just the start. Who’s to say we won’t have several VDH test out the Ptr and tell them it’s still not on par with the higher end tanks? I know the past speaks for itself with feed back, but at least there’s some kind of microscope in our direction.
Honestly, unless you can do 20 keys as a VDH as effectively as any other tank and push mythic raid content as good as other tanks… any change they do is meaningless.
1.6% of 20+ keys done are as a VDH with warriors hitting 60%+.
Trust me, as someone who has attempted 20 keys, I literally can sometimes get one shot tanking 6 mobs and it’s not fun when I watch nerfclap tank 18 mobs in a 24 key and take almost no damage. That’s broken on both specs part.
There’s only 10 or so VDH that have killed Jaina and 600 or so monks as well as a significant amount of other tanks except VDH and Guardian.
Level the playing field. I’m not saying make VDH so powerful everyone rerolls. But allow players to play what tank class they want in raid/mythic.
Never allow a player who plays a tank/healer make it feel as they made a wrong choice in playing that spec.
There’s a significant amount of players who roll dps and way less who tank/heal.
These are only numerical tunings which could have easily been hotfixed in right now. This patch better have talent changes/azerite issues looked at etc etc.
We’re one of the weakest tanks in regards to damage too. Sure, we can burst to huge numbers but overall pale in comparison with prot paladins. With the 15% damage buff coming to guardian we’ll be the lowest dps tank in the game.
Low DPS? Check
Still take high damage intake compared to other tanks? Check
Sub-par high key and mythic progression tank? Check.
All in all, still a recipe for disaster.
So much this. While I agree that this wont fix everything warriors are getting knocked down a peg which balances that a bit. But there is legit no reason to not hotfix this right now. Even these changes tomorrow would be a help and allow blizzard to at least have a few weeks before deciding what else they want to do to the spec past it.
This is a great start. With a buff to meta and fixing our talents we could be competitive.
By itself it’s probably not enough, but we need to be patient and see if more is coming down the pipeline.
Of course being a bottom tier tank for multiple tiers we are going to feel like it’s not enough. But let’s be patient and test it, fellas.
I’ll remind you that warrior was a mediocre tank and IP was buffed and only a handful of buffs that took them to the dominant position they’re in not.
Also, consider with better passive mitigation we may have to kite less, which means we can actually stay in and do more damage and generate more souls.
Be grateful for the changes we’re receiving; I can tell you, there’s nothing worse than ungrateful recipients.
If you look at the essences list, it looks like we will have that option (according to Sloot) this essence changes to whatever major CD a tanking class uses. For Paladins it’s Avenging Wrath so the assumption is that for DH it will be Meta. As a Major it will continually reduce the CD of Meta while using the Minor will give a flat 16.5% Meta CD reduction.
Vision of Perfection
Vision of Perfection (Rank 3)
Quality: EpicPassive
Major Power : Your spells and abilities have a chance to activate Avenging Wrath for 8.0 sec.
When the Vision of Perfection activates, the cooldown of Avenging Wrath is reduced by 15%.
Minor Power : Reduces the cooldown of Avenging Wrath by 16.5% and increases your Versatility by 419.
When you activate Avenging Wrath, immediately heal for 5% of maximum health.
Edit: I’m bad at numbers.
Where is Xaedys?
100% agree, since they identified this as a true problem finally, there is no strong reason not to hotfix it right now. Why would you wait two months before making a tank a bit more viable?
Bears have been in a bad place, but at least their resource gen increases as they take more hits; ours hard caps. My buddy was bear tanking an 11 Temple for lols (he’s normally a moonkin on my team) and got his phys mitigation to 80%+ on the orb section. We… get to kite.
Liaka, do you reckon you’d be more inclined to take VR over Soul Barrier with this change since it would stack pretty well?
Also, got the trinket off of mythic Opulence this week! It accounts for 16% of my healing lul. Never taking it off!
I actually dislike void reaver. I feel like it’s a lazy talent. Void Reaver should be buffed in our kit naturally via Demonic Wards buffed to 20% and removed and putting something else.
I use soul barrier because it’s nice having something extra to press instead of micro-managing void reaver falling off.
Vengeance already has to micro-manage soul generation and not walking over it combined with demon spikes charges and infernal armor uptime etc etc…
Then you have warrior that literally is a 2 button tank spec
Blizzard games used to be high risk high reward. There’s nothing hard about shield block spamming every 6 seconds 3x in a row then popping last stand waiting for recharged while you’re blocking 100% for 51 straight seconds and keeping HUGE levels of absorb up from ignore pain and the azerite gains you get from it.
If warrior is going to have a low skill cap they shouldn’t be best at all content.
Low skill should equal low reward
High skill should equal high reward
