I have never played this class before - only the havoc. So i’m trying this using my level 80 demon hunter. One thing i cannot figure out is the Collapsing Star ability when you enter Meta. I cannot get that to appear. Is it true that it is near impossible to get it to proc until level 90? You really play a class that is broken (only what i have found trying to figure this out) until level 90? You enter meta with 10 souls on the ground, hit void ray, do whatever to generate souls to try and get the 30 for the stars - but exit before that ever happens.
Is this right or i’m doing something wrong here? What am i missing? I read you should get 3 stars in the meta but i’m not seeing how.

You need rank three of the Midnight Apex Talent in the Devourer tree to get immediate access to collapsing star when you reach meta: https://www.wowhead.com/spell=1250094/midnight
So yes, you can’t do this until 90. That doesn’t mean you can’t get collapsing star, but while leveling it’s more difficult - especially in questing content where you aren’t in combat longer than a few moments.
I’d recommend doing the movement / melee build while leveling. It’s more fun, you kill things faster, and it isn’t limited by lack of access to the Midnight capstone: https://www.wowhead.com/guide/classes/demon-hunter/devourer/dps-leveling-tips#leveling-talents-devourer-spec-tree. Be sure to take Soul Glutton. You can swap to a Collapsing Star Build at max level.
Yes, I think it’s a bit silly that the spec they sold on the “large crits of Collapsing Star” doesn’t really get to see those returns until max level, but the other build is fun too in the meantime.
I played Devourer when Midnight first launched, it can be fun
