Demo warlocks should have 6 soul shards

As much as I want to love this spec I cant help but feel the fact Demonbolt gives 3 soul shards, shouldnt we have 6 soul shards to balance it out? I feel like it is way too easy to overcap on soul shards especially since HoG uses 3 shards per use, so you’re always either overcapping or casting HoG suboptially. This feels difficult to get around once the haste gets up there. I get that classes shouldnt be brain dead, but this addition would make the spec much more fluid to play imo.

It doesn’t give 3 shards it gives 2. It may feel like it’s giving 3 due to the pet attack giving one around the same time. Pretend it’s a 4 shard class and you’ll never overcap. Right now i feel starved for shards with the RNG nature of how we acquire them outside of power siphon. I don’t care about 6 shards I’d rather have my shard generation doubled.

Then they should switch some talent points around and give us what Evolkers have for an extra essence. This should be on a talent tree where Gateway and teleport should not

Yeah idk this rng core reduction from dogs is going to be very difficult setting up tyrants in mythic + especially that 15 imp talent setup that they are designing reign of Tyranny behind.

But then you have other specs able to set their CD setup almost immediately, not to include bloated toolkits and doing the damage that takes others set and time instantly. There used to be some sort of balanced with toolkits strengths to damage type but now we have specs that can do nigh high sustain with high burst on low CDs with almost no setup meanwhile keep other specs with that in mind and for reasons .

In general their making demo get less procs to try to limit our speed or more casting is a dead old game mechanic that no longer fits the game/mechanics they are designing.

Until the wow developers come into terms with that, will be seeing the same terrible designs in some of their specs for particularly no reason.

It would of been fine if they kept up the old rpg mechanics of old and maintained all the classes/spec in adherence to that but the way each expansion mechanism/specs combat design is being design no longer supports that.

demo is so slow on setups now, feels bad, REAL bad!

Exactly look at doom doomguard interaction. It’s design is attached to slower core procs now, not even just that they are not just slower but the cores themselves are based on rng.

A passive ability based on an rng slow core proc usage, which lets face it the ability baseline has nothing other than generates 2 soulshard. Whilst the doom guard itself has its own rng mechanic while being a low single target talent.

Meanwhile I get on my DK and anytime I use my death coil on a proc I get a death mage (equivalent to the doom guard) except it’s 100% summon on the using death coil on sudden doom where I can get sudden about 4 to 5 times in less than 30 secs window with no much thought to playing that proc.

Where as with demo I have to wait on my dogs to expire to maybe get a proc for a core to cast to also wait on doom explosion based on me getting additional cores to cast more to in the end for the explosion itself to also have an rng chance to get a doomguard. ???

In single target test this talent does no function well enough for it to have that much rng built upon it.

I’m not even sure how the ability doom itself went from an active ability with a 100% AOE condition on it went from that to a passive rng built on an even lower rng low single target. On a spec that now has to cast so much more than before.

It’s as if the design of this was behind two devs with opposing ideas.

Demonbolt gives 2 shards, the 3rd is coming from Soul Strike or a soul conduit proc

It would be nice if Demo Locks could have better use of their summoned pets, like Felguard is our best “pet” to summon to maintain tank like aggro and CC while dealing damage.

I would love to use the the Felhunter, Voidlords, Succubus, Tyrant and Imp. I feel like Demo Lock (and yes, I do play w/ a Demo Lock when I’m not playing my Hunter) should be able to use those summoned pets with mixable pet abilities within the Pet Tab in the Spell book.

Like, we can have the Felhunter have interchangeable abilities to act like the Felguard, or have a Voidlord be our “Felguard”. I have really never used any other pet to do my bidding because of the utility Felguards bring for Demo Lock as the standard pet to summon for pretty much all content to include end game content like Raiding and M+.

Do any other Demo Locks feel the same? Do you have a preference on what pet you use? How do you feel about interchangeable pet abilities to allow other Demo Lock pets being more utilized?

Thanks :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d argue demo needs six soul shards the least. Despite the shard economy nerfs that blizz has been heaping out since Shadowlands, demo has consistent generation and ways to pool with demonic cores.

Affliction is where I’d want to see that change, if it were ever a thing. Aff’s entire schtick is pooling those shards for one-minute burst windows with soul rot.

Aff’s shard economy is so painfully slow that sometimes we’ll hardly hit 6-7 shards between ramps in single-target, and we’ve gotta be proactive about not overcapping while pooling.

I so badly wish oblivion would generate shards instead of spending 2. The spec could seriously use some kind of shard-grab mechanic.
