So, in raiding, taking a break from my healer I wanted to raid as a warlock, I like destro but from what i’m reading Demo is better for M+ and raiding? I can’t do affliction, I’m not good enough to keep dots rolling.
If you like destro, play destro. Shouldn’t be any other consideration.

The common wisdom is that Demo shines in M+ and does acceptably in raids, while Destro shines in raids and PvP but does terribly in M+. As is usually the case with common wisdom this is broadly true but not as absolute as some people make it out to be.
If you’re taking a break from your main and mostly raiding, either should be fine.

Overall good in all situations Demo wins out.
Destro and Aff are trash in m+, Demo is supreme there. In raid, Destro and Aff are both way better than Demo. If you play at a higher raiding level, Destro is generally better, if you play at a lower, I suggest Aff.

Ilko pretty much nailed it. The differences exist but for most people arent large enough that “the spec you enjoy playing the most will produce best for you” isnt the best decision making process here.
If you are bleeding edge than sure go Destro for raid but Demo functions fine and you dont have to learn 2 specs for M+ and raid(if thats a concern)
you probably made your choice by now, but I just leveled up my warlock and have tried out the three specs.
Destro, I like the play style, it’s flashy and engaging. good single target and AOE
Demo, Took a bit to get figure out. It’s fun, good for tight AOE and single target, my only issue was using the CD demon at the right time, but that’s just me.
Aff, I always want to like it, but I never do. To me it’s clunky and tabbing through mobs to refresh dots isn’t that fun to me.
Destro is pretty much mediocre outside of the 3 minute infernal cooldown.
Affliction is absolutely useless in M+.
Demo excels in M+ but has to drop a quarter of their DPS to summon an interrupt, if the rest of the party lacks them.
So yeah. Lock isn’t really the best choice for BFA. More struggles than it should have. That said demo for M+ and affliction for raiding and destro for PvP.

Warlock is a top tier pick if you only care about raid like me, except for the class being extremely boring.

I found the following results in a pug/non cutting edge raid environment.
- Affliction gives consistent damage output in messy pug raids.
- Destro gives great damage in organized parse groups but falls behind the longer the fight goes on.
- Demo does fine but will always be lower than equally geared of the other 2 specs [IN RAIDS].
In M+ Demo 9 out of 10
