Demo Lock VS Hunter Beast Mastery

I just came back to WoW after almost 6 months.

I like my warlock and my hunter but I can’t make a decision about which one to pick as my main.

I’m mostly play as a solo player and was wondering in term of solo and group utility which spec is better between Demo Lock and Beast Mastery Hunter.

Thank you

Id go hunter

At the state which are Warlocks now, I would go BM Hunter, reasons:

  • Destro is the only spec for Warlocks which does pretty well in Raids and Dungeons
  • Demo Warlock is really good for Dungeons, especially if you have 3 EP traits or 3 traits which increase damage of your Tyrant like Baleful Invocation, while Demo lock is pretty meh when it comes to raid bosses
  • Affliction is really good for raid bosses, but is terrible in dungeons
    • BM offers trap, lust, even roots if you spec and good interrupt, which majority of dungeons is a must, while as Warlock the interrupt is an issues and hardly any dungeons you can gate skip, though having lock healthstones is pretty great
  • And as Warlock, you are pretty dependent on Azerite Armor traits, the damage changes dramatically if you have good traits, while BM Hunter will still do fine, even with not so good traits
  • But one thing is for sure, the amount of Hunters there are now, if you play Warlock and especially if you are good Warlock, people will see it, while Hunters have harder time to get into raid groups, because of the huge amount of people playing them
  • And you can’t forget the most important thing what BM Hunter has, is the mobility to do all rotation while moving, so you don’t have to learn when to cast and when to move, since you always just gonna run/jump anyways

As a longtime warlock, I was shocked when I tried beast master.

For trivial amounts of effort compared to warlock, I was able to pump out comparable if not better amounts of dps.

Its been a while, but if I remember correctly none of the abilities I used had cast timers, so you can move and cast anytime you want. Its like playing a melee dps, except your ranged. You have perfect mobility and an amazing animal tank.

Other than maybe getting bored at doing so much dps for so little effort, its hard to see any downsides to beast master.

I know this isn’t about all the hunter specs but there’s also the upside of survival hunter being extremely fun to mess around on when your bored. Harpooning about is always fun

Survival is fun to play.

The grenades are a hoot!

I have a warlock and hunter also and I decided on the warlock for the utility. It’s nice being able to have free HP pots, a channeled spell that allows for healing and a battle rez (soul stone when applied to a dead party member will rez them), portals and we also have great CC abilities because we can enslave demon but also our succubus can CC. The blueberry is great for aoe cleave, the fel hunter for spell interrupts. I couldn’t pass all this up. I love the hunter as well but I didn’t feel as engaged with it like I do my warlock. (PS. I wish blizzard would give us back the ability to fall without dying like when we had that glyph with meta form).

EDIT: I didn’t give the hunter credit, it is a fun class. I really enjoy camouflage, and all the different pets you can have. The ability to fake your death for mobs to leave you along is also nice. I also like the ability to cast while moving which is something warlocks suffer from. Hunter rotation is also very easy in comparison to the warlock. The only thing that keep me away from the hunter was what a warlock brings to the raid, even though hunter has heroism I still found the utility to be more ideal for my needs. It’s hard to pick honestly. Also this was another factor for me, I found it much easier to get into a guild as a warlock than it was as a hunter because there are many more hunters than there are warlocks.

Demo lock for sure. No bias. Just fax

Personally i hate Demo lock but i really enjoy affliction and destruction.

Bm hunter, though, is definitely easier and in a lot of situations more effective than a warlock. They too seem to have less overall tools in their kit though, warlocks can do a lot of things utility wise that hunters cannot.

I have both a Demonlogy Warlock and a Beast Mastery Hunter.

I think the Warlock is a lot more fun to play, but I do think the Hunter is a better class overall. I think the Hunter is more interesting when you add finding and taming your favorite pet.

BM hunter is the only 100% mobile ranged class in the game, that means you can do the maximum damage while running all over the place. It’s really frustrating having to cancel spells because you have to move as a Warlock.

For defensives and group utility~

The Hunter has:

  • Bloodlust/Heroism
  • Offensive Dispel
  • Honking heal (spirit mend)
  • An interrupt
  • 30% self-heal (better than a healthstone)
  • Turtle for immunity to damage
  • A Stun
  • Good mobility (Disengage + Post Haste)

Warlock has:

  • Healthstones
  • Summon (lol)
  • Gateway (lol)
  • Underwater breathing (lol)
  • A Stun
  • 20% reduced dmg taken via soul link
  • Passive shields through Soul Leech
  • 50% dmg reduction on a 3min CD
  • No interrupt
  • Slow as mud

The Warlock is passively tankier in all regards but I can’t overstate how amazing being fully mobile while fighting is.

I think you will like either class if you are into pet classes and soloing stuff.

Felguard dmg is a joke, just another dot

Might as well play the hunter, they look more warlocky then us these days with the range of demon dogs etc they can have running along side them.
