Demo lock dps rotation

So I switched my 120 lock from destruction to demo just recently and I’m curious when I should be using doom. Am I waiting till it expires then recast it? Am I dotting elite adds in raids to get better dps? Also I’m using soul strike which seems to help with dps bc I can use it on the move but having doom now took away my instant dread stalker cast so I’m a little confused on what’s the best talents to use. Lastly am I using demonic tyrant immediately after doing hand of Gul’dan to get the buff he gives with the demon consumption talent?

yeah, u want to recast it just b4 it falls off- as far as i know, you’re not clipping anything like you would with agony, corruption, etc., so at any point will do.

casting it on anything but the boss is prob a waste of globals- if it’ll be dead before 30s, it’s useless. there’s no partial damage ticks. this is why i personally don’t use the talent and use the first choice as well.

From what I’ve read doom isn’t all that great, most guides recommend using one of the other talents. I don’t personally use doom when I go demo.

you can technically pandemic doom and it will still hit its initial tick point. that said, soul strike is gonna be your go-to as well as Dcalling, itll make things feel a ton smoother

it just depends on if you’re building for raid boss SIMMing or a great all around use.

top min/max has demonic str, doom, summon vilefiend, soul conduit, and nether portal for best traits 2 days ago when i optimized my lock.

for every day use, i’d never use 1/2 those talents; i much rather take more useful talents on much shorter cds: demonic str, demonic calling, soul strike, inner demons (grim. felguard for pvp), and sac souls. yes, you lose some dps, but the downtime is far far better suited for wq’ing and such.

While Doom often sims great it seriously falls down in real world application. I wouldnt bother, but if you really want to use it it should be refreshed just before falling off.
Cast it on any mob thatll live to see it go off which excludes a lot of mobs but this varies with like… everything.

“Proper” talents depends on situation like raid or m+ or pvp so id nees more info.

And you want to pause for roughly .5 seconds after final HoG to Tyrant to allow all imps to spawn in since they make a significant difference if you have DeCon, which you probably should for most circumstances.

the bug for this talent was “fixed”, along with our fel/wrathguard’s use of haste and energy regen… this talent is about as useful as taking the EP trait now.

Dcon is still taken by literally every demo lock raiding. While netherportal might Sim a bit higher you will not get perfect play when using it. not to mention having your burst CD on a 1.5m CD as opposed to a 3m CD can be invaluable. yes they fixed the implosion bug for it but it is still the top choice for all PVE content. Doom you can argue one way or the other i think thatll come down to preference. You wanna run 3EP for M+ and 3 BI for raiding

Doom / Demonic Calling is very much a taste thing, even tough Doom is slightly ahead its also add one extra thing to rotation.

Check i site called Lock One Stop Shop or Icy Veins guide for demonology warlocks, also, hop on the class discord server for more information.

Very? DeCon is still the go-to for its row in raid and M+(cant speak to pvp) and EP still performs very admirably. Sure 3xBI is outperforming 3xEP in ST scenario but not by loads and EP is better in AoE. It’s still quite powerful.

while all the trait talk may be true, all i said was “those traits” sim the highest, and even so, i don’t use 1/2 of them… using “these traits” as my daily use. i haven’t mained this lock since legion; i only play her when i’m bored or wishing AFL’s rotation was the spamfest it is currently- i always loved the drain soul meta.

Doom is for Patchwerk fights and there aren’t any Patchwerk fights anymore. For tier 2 go Demonic Calling 100% of the time.

I consider Soul Strike to the best talent over all for speeding up the rotation and the most forgiving of the tier. Call Vilefiend if you are in a situation where you will need to spell interrupt and might have felhunter out for a short time ( I hope you don’t have to do this).

For Demonic Consumption have 6 imps and Dreadstalkers out. Be ready to immediately cast Hand of Gul’dan + Implosion to re-apply Explosive Potential. Any more than 6 imps is difficult outside bloodlust, so just make that your goal. In M+ trash just use him on CD with any amount of imps.

You asked about rotation, specifically mentioning Doom. There is no certainty that it will be useful enough of the time to warrant choosing it over Demonic Calling, which has a chance to be useful at all times. From the standpoint of usefulness to you, Doom is just not impactful enough to include it in your choices.

I always have 6 imps out before DC, and on the first use it’s important to get it out in a timely manner. However, if you get to use it a second time, you should try to time it to coincide with your Demonbolt procs. If you are sitting on 5 shards when the procs come, you can get at least 9 out. If you get 3 procs and use Soul Strike or if you get a little lucky with a Demonic Meteor shard refund, it is possible to cast 4 HoG and consume all 12. The timing has to be perfect but it is possible. Requires planning ahead and a clear cast window.
