Demo DPS questions

As most warlocks are forced into Demo for M+, I had a couple of questions as I am getting the spec down. (I usually only played Affliction and Destro).

Do you use Corruption (the dot) for dps? Or in your dps rotation? It seems a lot of rotations I am finding, no one is using it? Is that correct, is it that bad?

How many Imps do you wait to have before implosion? Is it 6 or 9? What is the best number I should be looking for. Obviously the higher the better, but if we are going through trash packs, when do you start Implosion after how many imps?

Thanks in advance. I might have some more if I think of any.

Corruption has no value for demo, so don’t bother with it. With implosion it’s ideal to use it every second hand or so when there’s 2 or more targets. Or if a boss is about to enter an immune phase, you can use implosion to cram all the imp damage in one global before the immunity happens.

Assuming you are using imp gang boss, implode right before your first imp expires, regardless of count. Maybe an exception to this is when you only have like 2 or 3 and only one or no bosses, then you probably just want to keep ramping with HoG’s until you have more. There are a couple weak auras to help with this, but most seem to like the Rhak Imp Counter the best for imps. Just send them when one is about to expire.

I tend to try and hold imps if the pack is nearly dead and I won’t lose a bunch to expiration in order to carry them to the next pack and start with a big implosion.

Lastly, you don’t really use implosion on single targets. I might use it if there’s an add to cleave, or multiple targets.

What level of M+ are you doing? Demo and Destro are completing 24s-25s and and Affliction is receiving more buffs on tuesday. You shouldn’t need to play demo if you don’t want to.

Thank you for the tips, I do appreciate it. I do use Imp gang boss and was not sure how long at times to let them build up before Implosion “ing” them on multiple targets.

With Destro, I find the single target very nice and do like it. With the AoE, I am going up and down on trash mobs. Some large packs I will do high AoE and then the next pull or two it will be mid level. I might play around with it a little more.

Outside of having your infernal out, I still can’t see it beating Demo for AoE. Right now it does beat Demo in single target in my experience.

And yes Affliction buffs are always nice, would love to use that in PvE again. It’s been about since Nathria (first raid of Shadowlands) that it was even relevant. And Demo is getting a little single target buff, so we shall see.

Thank you again!

Dot sucks. And as for implo i usually do about 8ish. Typically if you build up to like 12 they will start to go away so 8 is good. If tyrant is out you could wait until 20

I am only now getting into 15’s and demo is still better. Destro has more ramp time needed for AoE. It’s probably better for add weeks in 16+, if not 20+, where packs are staying alive long enough to really get a good chain of RoF going.

And, as others have mentioned, the tank needs to understand the range of the aoe and try to hold packs in place. They also need to be doing multi-pulls to ensure you get a minimum of 5 mobs. I am assuming this is a bad week for destro with sanguine cause the tank has to kite to some degree to keep out of it.

The rest of the group also needs to understand when to stack with jumping/rushinig mobs (i.e. frogs in AV or the worms in AA). I have to assume this gets better the higher into io you get. In 10-13 the pug people seem clueless :stuck_out_tongue:

I will say, I do miss conflagrate every time a bomb spawns and I don’t have an instant available to nuke it.

I usually implode after 2 hand of gul’dans when there are 3+ targets.

dont implode before fts is applied by ur dogs. same with fel dev if ur running it. expendables gives ur other pets dps buff so try to implode early, go into the pack with imps ready. 2 hogs before every implosion. implosion does full dmg to everything besides ur target, no matter how much energy they have left. if u 100% know ur targets will live long enough u can let ur imps live longer and minmax their energy use. try not to implode during tyrant, implosions gcd is a dps loss UNLESS a target that isn’t your main target will die before tyrant is over. keep in mind there is a finite amount of damage to do, so don’t implode at the last 5k hp cause you’ll be wasting imp energy.

edit: forgot to mention u need to implode on any 2+ target situation. cause 2nd target takes 100% damage from implosion it’s a major dps gain.

Corruption is horrible. Just look at damage meters.

I’ll implode them on a single target to finish it off. Especially if it’s an annoying mob like those bastards that breath shadow in TOJS.
