When I accept the quest inside a delve on my level 82 character, it says I’ll receive 95,508 XP when I turn it in. As soon as I leave the delve after completion, the quest log changes and says I’ll get 83,030. It’s not just a visual bug either, I do actually see that I get the lower amount of XP in the chat log upon turning in the quest.
Why does this happen?
Also, I thought that delve quest XP scaled drastically as you level up, so the best method of leveling alts was to do the delves early on, and then turn the quests in at level 88-89. I had this same thing happen on a level 89 character yesterday, but the numbers were ~98K XP when I picked up the quest, and ~85k XP when leaving the delve and turning it in.
~3k XP doesn’t seem like “drastically scaling” at all. Has something changed with this recently to affect XP gains on these quests?
Seems like a bug that should be reported in-game or on the Bug Forums.
There’s currently a tactic with first-time Delve quests to accept, do the Delve, but then hold off on turning in the quest because as you level up it is worth more XP than at a lower character level (and getting from 88 to 90 is a bit of a slog, so that’s when you turn in all your stored up Delve quest turn-ins).
95,508 XP sounds like the experience you’d get at L89, not at L82. 83,030 does sound like the correct amount of XP for L82, but if showed you 95,508 XP that’s a visual-only bug (that needs to be reported and hopefully fixed!).
Testing just now in Atal’Aman Delve:
On my L81 Demon Hunter and it’s showing 102,605 for a T3 delve (won’t let me do T4 or higher until L90). Walked out and reset to T2 and it shows 98,188; T1 is 89,250.
I don’t think the one-time quest reward shown in the quest dialog should be scaling with Tier-difficulty… I think it’s a flat 89,250 XP at L81. It should only increase in XP if I come back at a higher level than L81.
I can’t be bothered to submit a bug report (I’d hold them all until L88 or L89 to turn as I know that increases the XP value; done it on two toons now). If it’s something you’d like to see fixed, then put a report in-game or on the Bug Forums.
I know about that, as I said in the OP. I just went through this yesterday on a character that was 88-89, did a few delves, and it was like this every time, where the XP changed from before to after completion. My point about that was, that it was only about 3k XP difference for that character at 88-89 than it is for the character at 82, so why even bother to wait to turn it in? 3k is a nothing burger at 88-89 really, so I wondered if something had been changed recently.
Weird that it shows that much XP for you at level 81, when it was less for me at level 82… Oh is that because you have more Mentor bonus for how many characters you’ve leveled? This is my third alt, so it’s at 15% bonus XP.
This seems like a different issue. I’m not seeing XP amounts that are less than 10K at all.
I’ve never enabled war mode, but the delves I did yesterday on my character that was 88-89 had this same issue with differing XP amounts, and were not in Silvermoon City.
At least you can find your delves, mine haven’t been on the map for a week, it happened to me in the first patch as well, my delves didn’t show up for 2 weeks, actually my whole map is basically broken, and Haranar is a sea of black pixels and black water, in the whole zone.
Hold off turning them in until level 88 at which they give the most experience, turning in all delve quests at the same time gives you a level and a half, taking you to middle of 89 before exp modifiers.
No, it’s not that. And afaik, rested xp never applied to quest turn ins, only mob kills.
I did that with another character, and the difference in XP on the quests between level 82 and level 88-89 was like 3k XP each. This seems silly to me to wait to turn them in, when two WQs can make up that XP from all the delves that you’d be “losing” by turning them in earlier as you do them.
