Its $3000 lol. With that money you can build the same computer with better quality components for hundreds of dollars less
Not to mention you can’t upgrade it due to the way they set it up…
Everything is customized, so once something is needed to upgrade in a few years, you can’t
Either way he’s gonna be rocking a nice rig for some time. Grats on our holiday present.
ah, 1 out of 3 actually gets it, thanks Aribeth
I know this thread is old…BUT, yes you can upgrade a R8. I have one and have already upgraded the CPU. I have know idea why you would think you can’t upgrade. Its built just for that purpose…to upgrade when needed.
Evandas is right; it’s literally designed to be upgraded

orly?
TL;DR:
Wanted to upgrade to a RTX 2070, propriety motherboard, case and power supply prevented him doing so, so he had to go buy a new motherboard, case liquid cooler and power supply to do so. Even thought he admitted it was his fault for not knowing
Hence why I said “can’t upgrade it due to the way its set up”
What this OP will eventually do one day with gpu, maybe not cpu though (cause hes stuck with a 9900k)
upgrade cpu sure, thats easily doable, which I found funny you used it as “See I told you so!1!11!” but ignored the more important components
You get what you pay for with pre builts, especially Alienware, literally designed to make you pay more in the long run.
Oh good, one video. /s
For real though, you can literally go to Google and type in “upgrading dell r8” and find plenty of people who successfully upgraded GPU, memory, storage, etc.
Stuck with the best gaming CPU? Oh noes. While there is literally someone in the thread who has successfully upgraded the CPU, even though that’s not even advertised as an easily upgradeable component like the GPU, memory, and storage.
I’ll just restate: you can literally go to Google and type in “upgrading dell r8” and find plenty of people who successfully upgraded GPU, memory, storage, etc.
OP, don’t listen to this fool. Congrats on the awesome PC
There you go again mentioning parts thats easily replaceable and ignoring the most important parts, like the GPU

Those big 3 fan cards have a tough time getting in. Especially because of height (pcie slot to side of case)
Not the average joe thinks about the length of the card though
Blower cooler is the way to go. The aurora case, even if you could fit a multi-fan card, does not have the airflow to dissapate the heat from the case.
blower cards (such as the the one in the pre built) also do this
Even if you could put a multi fan aftermarket one… heat will be a big issue due to limited air ventilation… Because its literally a big heater.
Yea because next gen new boards are incompatible with 9900k and below
Because its an easy component to upgrade…? Yes, unlike the GPU
The people you so call “claim” they upgraded their GPUs because they are either letting the card reach 85C or went with a blower card
Until he does this

imagine thinking running fans at high RPMs is alright
No they’re designed to make you a pay a fixed cost for fixed performance.
Don’t buy one with the assumption you’ll upgrade later. If you don’t plan to upgrade later more power to you.
Premade computers like alienware should basically be treated like game consoles.
This is MY experience with MY R8 that I have had for a year. ZERO, let me repeat, ZERO issues as far a heat problems, and upgrading the CPU.
When you order a R8, etc you are given choices as to what you want as far as CPU, GPU, PSU, etc. If you order the base line PC you will have issues on upgrading if you dont select the proper parts, especially the PSU.
I have a Gold 850 watt, plus its liquid cooled. I can shove a RTX 2080 in it now if I wanted with zero issues. It all depends on what you order from Dell on when they build it on how easy it will be to upgrade later down the road.
Plus, all of these folks who have issues may not be telling the full story on their setups. I know most folks believe everything on the WEB is true lol.
Most of the issues of the Aurora R8 and XPS Tower in regards to heat is due to the stock CPU cooler. They’re pretty bad with the stock heatsink, due to the poor location of the cooler + PSU(since the PSU blocks it). You’re lucky to have chosen the liquid cooler CPU option.
They basically have turned into jet engines/vacuum cleaners for a lot of people who were unfortunate to buy the stock cooler lol. They’re not too bad with the upgraded cooler options.
I got an Aurora R9 last month before the pandemic, and I love it! Not as powerful as OP’s but still I run it only for WoW it does its job very well.
*i7 7700
*2080Super
upgraded parts:
DDR4 Memory 16GB (2x8GB) ->32GB (2x16GB)
nvme SSD Intel 500GB -> Samsung EVO Plus 1TB
SmartCooler (aircooler) for CPU -> Corsair H75 Liquid Cooler
Aircooler for RTX2080 Super GPU -> Alphacool M02 Liquid Cooler
So far I’m very satisfied with my Alienware desktop. WoW graphics quality is set to 10 and 4K resolution, my not-for-gaming monitor can only run at 60Hz, everything looks flawless.
Hopefully on ultra. I get over 100 FPS on 7 with much worse hardware.
