SL didnt break it. Been broken long before that. SL is actually better than what we have been getting. DF might fix things up again. I have high hopes for DF.

Hype is stupid to begin with. Whether you’re pessimistic or not if you’re gonna buy it who cares how you feel before you go into it?

If you go in with an even temper you’re not going to be disappointed if it stinks and you’re going to be pleasantly shocked if it doesn’t.

Yeah, about that…

Shadowlands broke it, but it can recover if both Dragonflight and the expansion after it are good. In other words it will take a lot of time and a lot of Blizzard listening to their players to get it to recover. Otherwise, it will continue to fall slowly.

Depends on what you describe by “wow hype”. Will it ever return to glory days? No. People have moved on, tons of other MMos competing and beating wow while wow stays in the shadows as a former shadow of itself for 2 expansions in a row. Will it get some people back? Sure, but don’t count a ton coming back.

DF just isn’t putting out anything worth getting hyped over.

The trailer does not even begin to hint at a story. It’s just “HAHA DRAGONS”.
And the announced features amount to a Pathfinder iteration and Talent Trees (which are neat, but are leveling-centric).

Even Dracthyr are hard to get excited for since they can only be the one class.

You think BFA was better?

Indeed, the difference between Lich King trailer and the DF trailer is miles apart. Even the SL trailer wasn’t that good, too much sylvannas in it and making Bolvar look weak. BFA even less so. They’ve fallen. Last good trailer was Legion.

they think WoD was better

For me BFA broke it… as soon as the war was a one sided narrative with no respect for what came before… essentially “the last jedi” of the wow era, the franchise has never quite recovered.

DR I am happy about the setting but the “raid or die” design style is still embedded throughout the game. I dont think wow will flourish until they break that mindset, beyond 2M people I just dont see a market big enough.

Until players can get top ilvl rewards from nonraid/M+/group content… even if they add restrictions like not powerful in instanced content, just having raid/M+/pvp be the only high end stuff to do ruins the game.

I mean, all else aside, are you actually trying to say the BFA trailer didn’t create hype?

Different teams working on the cinematics now. The team that made that stuff is working on a new RTS game. They are forever done with Blizzard.

I mean it was arguably the weakest launch cinematic in warcraft’s history. The ending is good but you have to sit through 45 minutes (/s) of stonebro’s life before the action happens. it’s just not very action packed for a cinematic.

Never gonna happen. You literally have 0 use for that gear. No, that pet WQ doesn’t y need you in ilvl 270 gear. No that “rare” being killed non stop by everyone every 5mins doesn’t need you in ilvl 270 gear. The best gear should be for challenges, like raiding, M+, and rated PVP. You are not doing challenging content.

That makes sense, glad they are done. They had enough respect to walk away from blizz’s “time metric wow” game after they changed it from the fun game it used to be.

Really answer though I don’t think I’m Susceptible to hype… I’ve been around the block a few times

WoW Players by and large don’t even know what they want lol. We are one of the worst fanbases ever, no matter what happens its negativity and never being satisfied all around

So be it if it doesn’t happen, the game stays at ~2M subs.

I see this mentioned a lot, the use is fun. Its not about needing it, its about enjoying it. About progressing your character higher and higher, yes it would be nice to have content to measure against like 5 mask heroic visions or jailers gambit (both of which are non raid/M+ content that is gated and tuned to require that ilvl of gear - this is the main problem the ancillary systems mandate raid/M+ at the upper levels).

5 mask heroic visions were harder than heroic nya, and accordingly rewarded mythic ilvl gear. More of that would be nice.

Honestly, you sound like a wow Dev… you just dont want to see the other side of the problem, fair enough but it certainly limits the game.

BfA started breaking it. How can an entertainment company come back from such shocking writing; story telling that decimates the well loved Lore Characters people have known and loved for decades.

This cannot be fixed. I’ll play DF, I’m excited to leave BfA and SL behind forever, but the ashes of the World of Warcraft Lore I’ve always loved have disintegrated with the passing of time, and remain now only in my memories, along with my (non-existent) hype!

When Blizzard can prove that they are capable of making content that is not reliant on shocking writing, on thinking they are grand, epic story-tellers, when their idea of a good story is not killing everyone, or worse, (‘Now they are evil!’) THEN I’ll feel hype for a new expac.

But not DF; I’m still protecting myself after the loss of faith and pleasure BfA and SL have inflicted upon me. I have no hype, only hope.
