Dark side of Azeroth + void stuff

Let’s gooooo

There’s a balance to be had. But another SL is not the answer.

As long as it’s not anything like Shadowlands.

Shadowlands was not “a bit more gritty”. Blizzard cranked that spectrum to 11 and it was not even enjoyable. The aesthetics did no justice for it either.

Not going to happen. It’s being designed to attract 10 year old. just look at all the censorship and goofy disney like story line.

Shadowlands had a very varied aesthetic actually.

Bastion and Ardenweald were completely different vibes from Maldraxxus and Revendreth.

In fact the only place that was just 100% misery and darkness was the Maw (and Korthia to an extent).

People are speculating that’s the next expansion.

I’m all for it, I love void stuff.

If we get a Void expansion, S Priests and Warlocks get their lore expanded, though I feel like S Priests are going to get most of the attention. Either way I’m going to be happy.

Maldraxxus was a wasteland.
Half of Ardenweald was a wasteland.
Revendreth was a wasteland.
The Maw was a wasteland.
Korthia was a wasteland.
Half of Zereth Mortis is a wasteland.

Bastion is literally the only zone that isn’t a hellscape.

So, being generous that’s like 66% of the entire expansion that was showcased as an unlivable hell, with two zones dying, four zones already dead and one zone mostly untouched.

Will need to see what the lead in to the next expansion will be but I do expect a slightly more toned down aesthetic after this. Which would make sense, don’t want the next expansion to feel exactly like the previous one.

I cannot imagine we’ll ever get something like Shadowlands for the foreseeable future. And if we are diving into the Void I hope they do something because to make it a bit more varried, because seeing black and purple everywhere would get as old as seeing Legion Green everywhere.

You want a repeat of dirty captain nipps? SL’s aesthetics were awful. It was like if Sauron decided to buy out Bed Bath & Beyond.

Shadowlands ruined it for me. I dont think they can do a good darker expansion anymore. BUT I think the next expansion might actually be a little darker… unless the pirate style transmog is any indication, we may have a more exploration expansion and not as gritty.

Yeah, that’s a good point.

I will say that Blizzard did a pretty good job expanding on the void in the last few expansions. We saw the brokers and those light blue void beast creatures breaking into the Shadow Lands, I think they were from the void? Anyways, I’m pretty sure we’re going to see a return of those elements, but it will be great to see what they can dream up.

I can’t relate to this at all.

Maybe it’s a result of playing in a room with natural light or maybe my eyesight really is going, but the last thing I want in this game is less light or contrast.

Did people really think shadowlands was dark? Even the worst and most evil parts of SL fell short of like scholomance lol

I consider “darker” to be “more actual consequences to things”, where stakes FEEL high. We all know we will “win” in the end, but how about some dire circumstances where we actually have a sense of, “we might NOT” this time?

“Darker” meaning color palette (a/k/a Diablo4ified) is just a coat of paint; if they story is silly, who cares if it looks gritty?

Could you imagine an expansion that we could lose? That would be really interesting. Like, how we do in this expansion or patch/season, will dictate how the next expansion or patch/season will play out.

That would be nuts.

Well WoW can’t do that because of the 2-year rule. So consequence isn’t in their definition. With SL they tried to do “Choice matters” but really all it did was just make certain classes have to take certain Realms in order to gear at endgame.

Really makes you think if the devs play other RPGs.

Forbidden reach could’ve been on mt. hyjal and I don’t think anybody would have complained. The idea that between patches need to be on the current continent needs to die, it limits the theme to be too closely related to the main story. If some necromancers take over blackrock depths and we have to go in there butcher style and wipe them out I’ll gladly take that as a mega dungeon over mechagon.

As long as it looks good. I hated looking at the maw or any relative zones. It can be dark and pretty.
