From what I’ve read, wod had serious problems before it even launched, in that a lot of the promised content wasn’t even technically feasible and was undeliverable.
They should put the wow team in single, isolated, airconditioned rooms, free from cube crawls and make them play through every Shadowlands system 5 times so they understand how arbitrarily awful the game has gotten. That should teach them about what NOT to do. Keep the art team out of it though, they are great. Don’t care if it takes 6 months or 6 years, make retail wow better again.
LET’S MILK THIS CASH COW DRY AND WE’Ll ALL BE RICH…
A lot of the issue was that they were trying to speed up the expansion cycle. I forget the exact time frame they were shooting for but they wanted to pump out expansions much faster.
Most people aren’t thrilled with sitting on the same patch for 1+ years waiting for the next expansion but the shorter a timeline the devs have the less they can produce no matter how efficient or hardworking they are. Many of the issues that caused them to drop content probably could’ve been resolved with enough time.
9.2 is already scheduled in detail and in the final phases of development. This stuff is planned out a year ahead where possible. You can’t change things that were done quite a long time ago.
They’re gonna rush 9.2 and give a bad 10.0.
They’ve been working on 9.2 for quite awhile now. It’s not rushed and there’s no need to rush it. 9.1.5 had virtually no new playable content added, meaning since 9.1 most of their effort went into 9.2 instead.
After this we can expect a 9.2.5 patch too. But otherwise all of this year and into 2023 will be dedicated to 10.0 after this next patch releases. There’s plenty of time to work on it, and we are going to have to be patient.
It’s not a good thing to start the first sentence of a thread off with a lie.
You mean the expansion that was full of complaints until we were many months into the expansion? lol
Edit - legion was insanely full of bugs, glitches, exploits that went unaddressed, ect. It’s crazy how rose tinted glasses work.
I mean, I don’t mean to come off as salty, but haven’t they done that already with how they handled the story of Shadowlands? It’s not official but I’m almost certain we’re not getting a 9.3. But, as far as rushing 9.2? I think I’ll have to disagree.
I have a feeling it’s going to be a long time between now and the next expansion launch. I’d much rather have a robust last patch than a feeble one. The content drought will be really bad if they rush 9.2, I want something I can sink my teeth into for a while.
But…the selfie cam. Best content ever.
Rushing the last major patch that could go on for 9 months to over a year would be suicide
They’ve already probably cut content from the rest of the expansion and that should be enough
I think they were aiming for one per year, which given their history, I don’t think anyone believed they could manage.
EQ manages a rate like that because the expansions are smaller in scope from what I remember.
We’re definitely not. Blizz confirmed 9.2 is the end of the major story arc and last big tier patch. Zovaal is dying in this raid. ![]()
But they did say there’s more to come afterwards. So a 9.2.5 is likely to happen and would make sense to tie off all the remaining loose ends, like the little Scourge issue back on Azeroth. That’ll probably release later in spring and then it’s full steam ahead next expansion!
It’s going to be a fun drought though, there’s no scenario where 10.0 releases as early as this year.
Can’t wait to place my garrison anywhere in the world and customize the building locations.
I’m not super salty about it, I’m of the mind that a good story knows when to end… but man, I’m sort of rooting for Zovaal. I don’t really care what he has planned, I’m low-key curious what his plan would mean for the WoW universe.
I would welcome with open arms an epilogue patch. This whole expansion feels like we’ve been on a pub crawl, just going from place to place to place without a real good rest in between. Story-wise, anyway. I need my exposition dump.
For real! Also I can’t wait to change to a different architecture.
With how bad SL has been lately, I don’t even think 10.0 will be good. Maybe until they can clean up their act, listen to feedback and get a new writer for the story, then things might go better.
OP.
This is exactly what happened with Shadowlands.
No.
Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it.
To quote someone or other about investment prospects: past performance is no guarantee of future success.
First you need to realise that the next expansion has likely been worked on for more than a year, possibly two. So cutting this one short - which they are - doesn’t impact that much on how good or bad it will be.
I think that is more determined by who is in charge of the game’s development and how willing the Blizzard team is to take effective action to not repeat the mistakes of the past two expansions. If I was going to lay money on anything, I’d say is quite possible that the current WoW game leadership will be leaving this year. Blowing one expansion is one thing, but blowing two is creating a pattern of failure, and the game won’t recover from a third.
