EDIT: Mission accomplished. The goal of this thread was to advocate for a better tool, and Blizzard is giving it to us in 9.1. Woohoo! Mods, this thread no longer serves a purpose - feel free to delete or lock it as it no longer serves a purpose.
Forget the ridiculous requirements that PUGs place on themselves. Even without those, RIO scores are near useless.
There is no difference in scores between someone who grinded their way to the top, and those who paid for carries.
Nothing like grabbing a 1300 healer only for them to die three times in ToP fight ring boss cleave and then ask the group how the boss works. /leave
RIO is completely useless now in determining skill, just like PvP rating, thanks to carries.
We need a better metric that actually cares about # of runs, etc. - other metrics to help determine if the player has an inkling as to what they’re doing. RIO isn’t it.
I’ve had zero trouble getting into groups on my BM hunter with 660 IO and 208 ilvl. I apply to all groups between +8 to +10, and it’s never taken more than 15 minutes to find a group.
It’s not R io that’s the problem, it’s group leaders who hold out for people with an io high enough to carry them to victory. As in, the leader (or someone in the party with a key) has, say… 400 io and the group listing is for an 11 or a 12 or something.
^ Number of +15 keys completed is usually a good indicator. If it’s like, 45+ at mid season, it’s a person who has probably not been carried since carried people don’t bother doing more than 1 key a week after KSM.
There hasn’t been one player in all the m+ pugs I have been this season that I suspected was a carry. I would say that the person in charge of the keys does a decent job of putting together the groups. Also as stated already number of timed runs on io page in addition to io score.
I don’t know if I agree with that. More often than not, you’re going to get what you expect from a player’s IO score. Even good players make mistakes though.
Then there’s no reason for it to go? If you know and think it is useless don’t use it Why do you have to remove it for everyone who does find it useful?
By the same token, ilvl is useless, achievements are useless, etc.
RIO already offers that. If you’re making or joining groups that are built souly on ilvl, that’s on you.
It’s just a simple tool that makes building groups faster. That’s it. In the end, every metric is going to give you a full picture of the ability of the player. Find people you like and add them to your friend’s list. If you’re doing groups, you should always try to add people that do well and… probably add the people that don’t do well to ignore.
Anyone who actually cares about your “IO” score can tell who has bought their score vs those who earned it. You can configure the “IO” mod to show the number of runs timed for certain key ranges. So if you see someone with all +15s and then nothing else in the 10+ range, you can pretty safely assume they are buying carries and avoid them.
you have to use Raider io to its full extent for it to be useful, otherwise the addon is essentially just a different version of gearscore/ilvl. if you bring up a person’s profile and see they have cleared all the dungeons on +15… but see their number of runs completed at +10 or higher is under 10… well there you have someone who bought their way up. If you see a healer who has 60 runs at +10 or higher, well that’s someone who has grinded it for themselves.
