Except all the animals that gladly kill things for giggles.
Not even close. There are things people do to others that transcend a “human perspective.” Abortion is murder of a helpless innocent child, Hitler’s atrocities, Human trafficking, the slave trade going on in Muslim countries… I could go on and on.
Thats not an argument that evil is a real objective thing.
Thats just a list of things you find evil.
Anyone who tried to define it for you, not in jest, is evil here.
What I really need to do is break out my Laserdisc player (it still works ) Back in the late 80s, in Akihabara, I found a laser disc of the Diacon III/IV videos for dirt cheap. I really need to digitize it at some point. That and the Laserdiscs of Space Ace and Dragon’s Lair from the Arcade machines
Eye of the beholder… or some such.
Evil is just something the human conscience created, knowing some thing are right and wrong. But it does not work that way, there is a flaw and ones view can be altered very easily.
For example I think someone hitting an animal instead of crashing into another car is evil. But swerving into the car to save the animal but killing the occupants of the care is fine. One could say that is evil.
In summary it is someone that willingly “violates the principle of non aggression”, which means it is someone who initiates violence against someone or someone’s property.
To understand why this is the metric of evil I suggest reading the book “The ethics of Liberty” from Mises, or “Man, economy and state” from Rothbard, which goes in extremely deep into this question.
But in a quick summary, in order to flourish, societies need to organize themselves to inhibit this kind of behavior. Evil is the label societies put on people who display this behavior, which means that the person is not a desirable member of the society, and needs to be suppressed or cast out.
Societies that fail to suppress this behavior naturally suffer dire consequences. That is why all laws that suppress this behavior are considered “natural laws”.
What find evil is to super glue a dollar bill to a sidewalk and watch people try to pick it up. Mwuhahahah.
Evil is subjective. What one might think is evil, another may not.
Semper Fi!
Indeed, humans are the Alpha and Omega of evil.
Having a majority agree on something doesn’t mean the opposite perspective doesn’t exist. I assure you there are people that agree with even Hitler’s heinous moves. Scum of the Earth, but they exist. Absolutes like that are never accurate.
Pretty much an apex predator trait. Like cats, orca’s etc… Creatures literally designed to kill efficiently so could be looked at as exercise. (Chill, I know I’m stretching).
Actually after some research… Honey Badger? Really??? That’s surprising.
Dolphins do awful things to porpoises just for fun. They have no threat to their food or other dolphins. Also dolphins are awful to each other
Chimpanzees as well. I can’t go into detail what they do to each other
A house cat could be well fed. And still go kill things and abandon the corpse without eating a crumb of it
My cat’s leave headless squirrels, birds and mice at my feet periodically. I guess it a sign of affection and they feel like I am a crappy hunter. Nothing says “I love you” like the headless carcass of a dead animal…
“It’s their way of showing you respect. They are bringing you gifts.”
Theirs? If yes, sure. If not, absolutely not.
Probably. I’m a “half an eye for an eye” person because I believe that if you turn the other cheek, they’re just going to poke out the other eye. Half an eye means they won’t keep doing it. Also, I believe in the properties of exponential growth and decay. If you and others inflict half as much suffering to them as they have to others, in total, I think this is fair.
Voices in your head, as in schizophrenia? No.
This reason is not good on its own. Ask why the superior ordered it, that will tell you if the reason is good or not. Usually it’s not.
Its a reminder of what theyll do to you if you step out of line
I tell them good job, give them a treat, and dispose the bodies.
