Defense Skill in PvP

  1. If I have 325 defense and the attacker has 300 weapon skill. What happens exactly.

  2. If I have 305 sword skill because of my racial and my enemy has 305 defense because he has on T1 warrior shoulders… What happens?

  3. If I have 1% hit chance over my normal PvP cap and I am fighting a warrior who has 325 defense. What happens?

  4. If I have 1% hit chance over cap and +5 weapon skill and I am fighting someone who has 330 defense. What happens?

Please share if you know anything useful.

The real question is why are you playing ret.

A more pertinent question is why do you post with a belf warrior.

@OP all I know about defense is it helps with crushing blows (I think) and being glanced maybe?? I am not knowledgeable on this topic. I just came to your defense because of the belf.

  1. he has reduced chance to crit you.
  2. nothing/unrelated.
  3. nothing/unrelated.
  4. again, nothing/unrelated.

Don’t really care about the whole ret or warrior topic ATM. Just want answers about defense, hit chance, and weapon skill in PvP. I like to play ret. I’d play a ret even if I thought they were the worse thing in the game.

Each point of difference between your weapon skill and their defense is a 0.04% increase/decrease in miss, dodge, parry, block, and crit chance.

  1. The attacker would have a 1% increased chance to have their attack be one of the above except with a 1% decrease in crit chance.
  2. They are the same so no benefit or negative to either side.
  3. The 1% hit negates the 1% miss from defense but the other negatives still apply.
  4. It’s the exact same as number 3 as all that matters is the difference which is 25 for both.

Also, I haven’t done any research so I can’t tell you if the NPC benefits of having 11 or more defense skill over your weapon skill applies against players.

Thanks. I was trying to keep the fanatics at bay.

I think hit and resist rates were made far more forgiving across level ranges for PvP in one of the early patches in 2004/5 and they didn’t say exactly what changed so that might impact how defense skill works in PvP. Could have been as simple as a floor on your hit rate in pvp so it doesn’t drop under 40% or something.

Zeliek, the information you gave me is what I thought but I thought the plus hit % would negate the minus to be critted as well not just the miss. The dodge and parry would stay there. Or does the bonus to hit just negate the miss chance only?

Miss chance only. The crit chance reduction isn’t really that big. Generally warriors, give up quite a bit to get defense and the trade off isn’t worth it except as a flag carrier. Not to mention a stun negates much of the benefits.

So a warrior with 375 defense gains. +3% block, dodge, to be missed, parry… Sounds like nothing is even close to defense stacking in melee vs melee. In real PvP you would want higher damage to kill casters and win group fights but in a duel. Looks like defense would be awesome. Also, you have consider Warrior’s Tier gear is defense heavy. Maybe, you would use T3 armor over rank 10 PvP gear even outside of duels… Also, lots of stuns that remove defense, use melee hit to land themselves…
