Decor Storage Limit

I’ve made several posts about the decor storage limit on both the US and EU forums. Unfortunately, only a handful of people have replied, and Blizzard has remained completely silent on whether this issue is even being considered.

I spent some time on the 12.1 PTR this week hoping for some good news… but the decor storage limit is still 7,500.

Honestly, seeing that made me lose hope.

Housing is my favorite feature in WoW, but I’ve reached the point where I can’t even collect new furniture without deleting decorations I’ve already earned. I genuinely don’t know how we’re expected to keep enjoying future Housing updates if the storage limit stays the same while more and more items keep being added.

If you’re running into the same problem, please leave a reply or give this thread a bump. Even if you haven’t reached the limit yet, you probably will eventually. The more players speak up, the more likely Blizzard is to notice that this is becoming a real issue.

Yes, this problem will continue to rear its ugly head every time there’s a big Housing update because it’s a pretty significant flaw in how the system is designed.

I suspect the topic of the storage limit fell off once the 7500 limit was introduced since it was mostly adequate for the amount of decor you could collect and what is needed to decorate two level 9 houses.

The limit, however, will start proving problematic (again) as players begin to access level 12 housing on one or both of their houses in 12.1. Both the amount of available new decor and the increased decor limits afforded to level 12 housing will render the 7500 limit wholly insufficient.

I’m a bit surprised more folks haven’t started talking about it. I imagine that the issue is still “out of sight, out of mind” for a lot of players currently. Though this doesn’t mean the problem is any less real, and unless the storage limit is increased I can guarantee you the topic will surge again in this subforum once 12.1 rolls out and players get access to level 12 houses.

Blizzard needs to come up with an actual long-term solution to this problem.

I think you’re absolutely right that this will become an even bigger issue with future Housing updates, especially once higher house levels increase decoration availability.

But for me, this isn’t a future problem anymore — it’s already happening.

Even at level 9 with two fully decorated houses, I’m already hitting the 7,500 storage cap. That means I can no longer freely buy or keep new decorations without actively deleting existing ones. So the limit is already affecting day-to-day engagement with Housing right now, not just something that will appear later.

That’s why I feel the urgency for a long-term solution isn’t just about upcoming updates — it’s about the current experience as well.

I’m up near the cap as well. I’ve just been putting any decor I acquire directly into my character’s banks instead of learning it unless I am planning on using the item right away. It’s not an ideal solution as it means that I will have to search through alts to figure out who has the items I want to learn and use. There’s no way for me to store unlearned decor in the Warbank because I can’t afford any more of the crazy expensive tabs. The situation is frustrating.

I’m sure they have data on how many people are at or close to the cap so hopefully they are planning to raise the cap again soon. I just wish they’d raise the cap BEFORE it becomes an issue for players instead of waiting for people to get frustrated at being stuck at the cap with no idea on when they’ll be able to learn new decor again.

Oh, I don’t disagree. I am just hitting the 7500 limit myself and only one of my houses has been decorated. I just started the second and will need to delete many items from storage to dive into the build.

One thing about your original post that stood out to me was “earning” the decor. I feel this is a fantastic way to put it. The decor is earned, whether that be from spending actual resources like marl or gold, completing many delves, engaging with the crafting system, etc. It feels particularly atrocious that after earning decor with my limited time and resources the expectation that I must then “delete” it from my storage in order to continue engaging with the system. It’s ludicrous, really.

The decor storage limit has been flawed since day 1, and deserves a real long-term solution.

I completely agree. Having to keep decor unlearned in banks just to avoid hitting the cap feels like we’re working around the system instead of enjoying it.

To me, that’s a clear sign the storage limit needs a long-term solution, not just temporary workarounds.

We need to have another increase of the decor storage limit in the 12.1 please. :dracthyr_yay_animated:

Exactly. That’s really the part that bothers me the most.

It’s not just about reaching an arbitrary number. Every decoration represents time, gold, crafting materials, farming, or other effort. Once it’s earned, it shouldn’t feel like a disposable item that has to be deleted just to make room for the next one.

Housing encourages us to collect, but the storage limit eventually forces us to do the exact opposite. That feels fundamentally at odds with what the system is trying to achieve.

I really hope Blizzard can find a long-term solution before this becomes an even bigger issue.

It needs to go higher like 10,000 storage or at max 15,000.

There should be no real limit, beyond what keeps people from breaking the game with weird overflow values. These aren’t real items, they are numbers on a server somewhere so if you have 5 of something or 500, there is literally no difference. It is not even in Blizzard’s interest for there to be a limit as this is an excellent gold sink.

At the absolute best it is an unnecessary frustration. Blizzard really needs to reconsider what they intended to do here versus what they are doing.

I’d go even further—I think the storage limit should be increased immediately, not wait until 12.1.

For some of us, it’s already limiting our ability to enjoy Housing today.

Sadly, I’m in this case too. :dracthyr_cry_animated:

I just spent 30 minutes deleting a bunch of plant decor…for some reason I had bought 66 Creeping Ivy…deleting that and other things got me down from 7500/7500 to 7275/7500.

Yeah, being able to delete the neighborhood vendor stuff, combined with the increase to 7500, was very helpful. I’m up to 6,600 in storage, but that’s after buying like 500 Stormwind beam platforms for my recent build…so it’s a problem purely of my own making at this point.

No! It’s not a problem of your own making.

You said it’s from your previous build so you had good reason to buy them. Please stop making excuses for a flawed system.

Yall are so dramatic lol.
You understand it was already raised right?

You understand it was after data was gathered right?
You know what happens next? They gather data during 12.1 and then raise it again.

No. They are right, it is a problem of their own making. Especially when they are getting lower budgeted items in less than 1.5 months. As people have said from the beginning of the playtests: Stop overbuying what you aren’t using.

It’s not flawed because you’re exhibiting hoarding behavior…it’s just hoarding behavior.

They aren’t using the items. Meaning it’s not from a build and they weren’t needed, meaning they didn’t have “good reason” to buy them.
They also didn’t say previous. They said recent meaning the one they used now.

You keep saying this in new threads like you weren’t proven wrong by Eldorung months ago.

There is an addon that will literally add who has what on the tooltip. You don’t need to search through anything.

In before someone complains about it not being natively in the game.

I don’t know why you framed it as an assumption when that was literally the basis for why it was raised from 5k to 7500. It was the reason why it was raised at that point in time, and it will be that reason again, as it always is.

Because beyond the same few people that live to complain in this subforum, most people understand that there is zero need to stress and doom about a system that is going to be around forever and are just relaxing.

I do find it a bit odd that the current collection limit is not even high enough to allow a player to hit the build limit on both their alliance and horde plots, but overall it’s an incredibly minor thing to me. I’m at 4503/7500 and I know for a fact I’m a pretty massive outlier, anyone actually running up to the cap has gotta be hoarding or something…

Honestly, I’m holding off on building until 12.1. I’m excited about the new stuff that’s being implemented. Hopefully I can remove some stuff from my inventory when prefab stairs are a reality. Haven’t been in PtR yet, so I’m just going to chill for a bit.

I am at level 9/23,200 and recently hit the storage cap. The problem here is that most players are loathe to delete items that they have earned and spent hard earned currency on. If you’re not going to raise the storage cap, then let us sell our decor back to any vendor for 50% of the original purchase price from the vendor. This would be limited to gold only vendor items, and exclude decor purchased in the AH or with alternate currency.
This isn’t the perfect solution, but coupled with my next idea, it would be a big QOL improvement.

Realistically , a storage cap increase is necessary—what I propose is a base of 2000 units, with a 1000 unit increase for every level beginning with one—so when you hit level one, you have a 3000 slot catalog. It would scale up 1k per level, and would be part of the rewards for leveling, just like current system, only new and improved  This would allow the storage system to grow with the game, and when you decide to cap housing levels, players will still have an incredibly capable tool box to store all decor from previous builds, or to sell it at garage sale prices, which feels better than destroying it, by far and still leaves them room to buy even more decor. Everybody wins.
Go one step further and implement repurchasing unlocked decor (including decor from dungeons and delves—(for gold OR community coupons)from the catalog for uninterrupted design time. Nothing is so annoying as having to leave to run a dungeon for one more Dracthyr pendant lamp, ifykyk.

All of these together would prevent the bulk of overbuying in the first place and players will feel a noticeable improvement in their housing experience immediately.

The housing system should maximize time spent creating and minimize time spent managing inventory.

I’m definitely struggling with the limit.

I feel like if everything in the “construction” tab didn’t count towards the limit, it would fix all my problems :stuck_out_tongue:
