Decor Limits? Why?

Just saw that the producers are implementing decor limits for housing. I assume this is something players earn through endeavors and such, but the idea of it is turning me off a bit to player housing.

I like to earn things in the game, it’s fun and gives me purpose. But straight up I don’t want to be limited in the amount of decor I’m allowed to use compared to other players. A max load is fine, but I am worried about being required to earn higher decor limits.

I can already envision having a certain plan for a home’s decor and hitting an arbitrary wall because I haven’t jumped through enough hoops to be able to finish it because my decor limit is too low. It’s going to piss me off, I can already tell, especially if I am not fond of the hoops the producers want us to jump through to earn more space.

Almost every single implementation of player housing out there uses this.

It’s not remotely as restrictive as you’re making it out to be.

It’s a 10000 item limit. That isn’t a limit you naturally reach, it’s there for system and server practicality.

Hold on a second.

Is this a universal “items displayed” cap? There’s an argument for that, just to avoid server issues. It’s a balancing act of sorts.

If there’s ANY gameplay attached to making housing more functional, aside from stuff like doing content to obtain furnishings?

The entire system is going to flop.

I am worried it’s just going to be another status symbol stroke-a-thon instead of a fun thing for players to engage with equally.

It depends if the max is 2000 without hoops, and 10,000 with hoops; or if its 4000 without hoops and 4200 with hoops. Obviously I’m just making numbers up to illustrate that we don’t know how significant the earned increases will be yet, so it’s probably not worth being upset about yet.

That’s max load. The video insinuates we will start at a minimum load and have to work our way up to max load through endeavors and who knows what else.

I’m curious to see what the beginner limit is vs the limit we have to earn through endeavors (and how). I get server restrictions…I’m just wondering how much of the 10k item limit will be locked behind high endeavor levels.

Decor limitations is pretty standard fare for an MMO housing system.

Even the Sims, a game designed around building homes, has decor limits.

It’s just the norm, there’s nothing wrong with them.

This one goes out to all the hoarders out there. You don’t have to cover every square inch of every wall, floor, and surface. It is OK to have some open space to walk around in. They also need to limit the number of hooks because there are only so many spaces and places in which things will fit And considering the size of some of the items they may even overlap into other spaces the same way they did in SWTOR.

I think I will wait until it actually comes out and see how many available hook spaces there are and how many decorations we can fit into it. At the end of the day, I’m still a minimalist so I have a hard time wrapping my head around people who are hoarders or the ones who have to decorate every square inch of a wall. It is OK to leave a little bit of blank space in places.

My worry stems from example like ESO, where I never really engaged with it enough to get more than the minimum because I did not like the activities required to improve the limit, so the entire system was basically dead to me. It sounds cool and I want to engage with it, but being stuck with only a chair and a rug to start is BS.

Which seems reasonable to me. Now could Blizz turn around and say you can only have 500 items and you get more once a day, sure, but I don’t think there will be a major limit. 2000 items is still a heck of a lot.

I was gonna say 2000 is actually incredible. At least a start. I know what Star Wars the old republic after a while they ended up making bigger strongholds with more hooks in it and now there are tens of thousands of decorations.

ESO is a good example - The reason they limit max decor is because they’re monetizing those larger decor unlocks through their cash shop - buying new villas, etc.

Think of this more like a mix between the current transmog system and that. There will ABSOLUTELY be cash shop items you can buy (Probably seasonal stuff, etc), but they’re going to throw some of it on trading post. Crafters will be able to craft some. You’ll be able to unlock some through achievements and running old content.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they tacked on some items to collectors/special editions of preorders, etc.

100% expecting this.

I would laugh if there’s a secret third neighbourhood, only available to those who pre-order.
