Hey guys so I was making this post to ask what class/spec would be recommended to someone who has never touched healing before? since I’ve only played dps and was thinking of pushing into harder content if I can become good enough to heal.
While I would say you want to try them all to find what you like, I’ll say that Disc and Prevoker probably are the hardest to play.
Do you want it to kinda still keep a bit of DPS playstyle feel?
Then pick Disc priest, MW monk or Hpally.
Do you want a more classic heal style?
Holy priest, shaman.
Do you want hots?
Druid
Do you want to yell at range dps staying behind you 24/7 and never sitting in your aoe heal range?
Preservation evoker
I think you should give them all a try before you decide.
Oracle Disc Priest. Omegalawl shields will carry you.
ruh ruh ruh ruh restoooooo druid !!! its pretty fun. a crap ton of apm so youll be mashing lots of buttons but if thats what you like its pretty awesome. cat form dpsing in between is also pretty fun and it makes the blood pump to see what you can get away with before having to hop out and heal but you def dont have to be hard up to dps if its too much. good luck
I would avoid Holy Priest. That spec is a complete dumpster fire.
Prayer of Healing is bait. Prayer of Mending is annoying. Hymn is annoying. Sanctity is annoying, extending Apotheosis is annoying. Everything it does is just annoying and bait and weak other than the ability to spot heal until the end of time, it’s really good at that, everything else it’s terrible at. Bad mobility, bad damage, bad utility, bad CC, low HPS, bad everything.
If you want a brainless EZ spec to play, go Disc or R shaman. Both have tons of utility and defensives + damage and healing.
All of the different healers have a different vibe and it is important to know what play style you best engage with.
- Like having an ability for every occasion? Resto Shammy might work for you.
- Like being in the melee of fights? Then Mistweaver or Holy Pally might work.
- Like DPS, from range, that heals all the time? Disc Priest might work.
- Like to be healing, from range, all the time, every time? Then Resto Druid might work.
- Like having more healing buttons than you can shake a stick at, and you like range? Holy Priest might work for you.
- Like very complex healing choice interactions, with medium range? Then Pres Evoker might work for you.
Resto shaman is the easiest overall in my opinion. Resto druid second.
Resto shaman for pug healing, disc or monk for organized play.
Shamans got a kit for everything which is useful when the skill level of your team varies instance to instance. Some mana problems but thats manageable with potions and good gearing.
Disc is well tuned at the moment and oracle/talent update for disc makes a lot of the convoluted stuff more manageable since the focus is on big bubbles.
Monk is similarly tuned and if you like dpsing it does a lot of it to maintain their healing with fistweaving. Caster build is also okay for raid and pvp.
I main resto druid but with its proactive nature, lack of reliable cooldowns for pugging, and lower damage that promotes being in melee for no healing benefit, i dont think its good for someone new to healing unless you want the option to go tank/rdps/mdps at anytime or you have a very reliable group that lets you take full advantage of your hots to maximize downtime so you can kittyweave and do utility.
Precisely why I don’t take Wellspring. I really don’t like conical heals or damage abilities for that matter.
