Specs you enjoy, hunter lore, animal companionship, what pulls you in?
my pets are cute and the goodest bois ever
aside from that it is relatively simple, easy to play hard to master kind of thing.
Can’t say much about this for Shadowlands as of yet, but now in BfA, I play Beast Mastery.
That spec in itself isn’t perfect, but MM is designed to play like a caster(but with a ranged weapon) atm so I’m not a big fan of it. Survival is a melee spec so, it’s not for me either.
If you like what MM or SV are about then, good for you really^^
But yeah, in short, I liked Hunter specs(one in particular) more prior to Legion compared to now so, we’ll see what happens going forward.
This is a big part of why I play as a hunter in WoW yes.
The lore and the fantasy surrounding Hunters and how they are portrayed in the game.
Despite certain…gameplay mechanics which I find to be less satisfying.
Always liked how closely tied to animals the Hunter class is in general.
I don’t prefer being a Beast Master which relies so heavily on pets, but I always want to play as a hunter with a pet out.
Sadly, MM is basically designed for you to not want a pet, or at least, it does not in any way promote the use of pets anymore.
But yeah…
The customization of pets in theme and use, Appearances and theme
BM hunter for the spirit beasts. Lol I gotta collect them all! I love challenging tames and the super rares. I like being able to pve alone and tackle most old dungeon/raids solo. My last guild was on it’s last legs when Classic came out so that pretty much killed it. Gotta be able to handle things on my own. SB heals come in very handy in a pinch. I try other classes but always come back to my BM hunter here in the end.
i can solo most content as bm easy uldum/vales rares and visions ect.bm is the most mobile spec in the game i also like suv that im currently on the nades and dots do so much damage and fun in pvp.
mm hunter needs work but over all i enjoy my hunter the most of any class in the game.
Thanks for all the information guys, currently having a blast picking which pet I want from each family
The bows, mobility, and the pets.
Survival life! Spearing enemies while my pet hamstrings them is fantastic!
Also Lonewolf sniper Archer big burst.
I really don’t know why it’s called that yet Survival Hunter?
I find more survival in BM than Survival.
Also when I was BM, about 15 ilevel less, i used to do much more damage, double or more.
I still do not see in the world another hunter that is not BM, to at least think that they are still popular and it worth it.
In the arena being BM I went up to 1500 in an effortless day, in SV if I win an arena it is a miracle and always doing less damage than the others.
I really would like to specialize and stay SV but I would like to find reasons to do so.
Even in the bands throw out me for the little damage I do, before I was BM I always on top.
While your opinion is just that; SV really is the better PvP spec. Although that may change as we progress with corruption and gear.
Your opinion on the naming is just that. It’s literally just a word. Who cares if it’s called BM or survival. IMO it’s fitting.
Having said that I’m not getting into the RSV fight; hope they bring it back as a 4th spec as I’d play MSV and RSV.
Uhhh harpoon shot…
I happen to have a Hunter very long time ago… not in Vanilla but on TBC.
Here are my favorite reasons for playing Hunter in the Past:
- Getting early an OP ability… Aspect of the Cheetah. Everyone then is crawling on foot and you dash with Aspect of the Cheetah and you are Range. Level 20 Battlegrounds is all about Hunter with Aspect of the Cheetah
- Ability to Kite Melee mobs… Kiting Elites higher level than you IS FUN. We dont kill them by ourselves. We kite melee mobs to the nearest City and have the guards kill it for us. We go with Aspect of the Cheetah and shoot melee elite from far range. Melee mobs will never catch us becoz of Aspect of the OP Cheetah.
Stitches of Duskwood, Fel Reaver of Hellfire Peninsula, Sea Giant Elites of Stranglethorn Vale needs a group to kill them. Not with a Hunter as Hunter can solo those by kiting them to Cities. On Beta Classic, I played a Hunter and somehow I abused it… leveling by killing all of such melee elites using the city guards. You would see corpses of elites or high level mobs just outside the city killed by the guards. It was me just playing Hunter mechanics. And I get caught. On Live Classic Blizz changed the mechanics… I never get XP on the mobs killed by these guards. Boo. LOL. It was fun while it lasted. - Scatter Shot - Aimed Shot combo was unfairly OP. Imagine you are on your mount then you got hit by Scatter Shot making you disoriented for few seconds… The MM Hunter would follow up with hard hitting like a truck Aimed Shot depleting half of your HP. And if you are a Clothie, it could 1-shot kill you. I was abusing this combo shouting at my victim… “Counter my Scatter Shot now or you will die with my AImed Shot”. I killed a lot of people on BGs with this powerful combo.
- Hunters were Masters of CC. I can even Freeze trap 2 targets back then. Mostly, I was freeze trapping 1 target, kiting/slowing a 2nd target while nuking the main target and still top the damage meters while wearing all leather (not mail armor) LOL.
- During WoTLK, Survival Hunters AoE DPS is OP… as OP as the FOTM Unholy DK’s AoE. Survival Hunters’ Volley with Explosive Trap = OP AoE. I switch to Survival on Lich King fight in ICC and humiliate everyone on damage meters even DK’s. LOL. Too bad, many MM Hunters of the time doesnt know how to play Survival master of traps. No wonder Blizz got rid of the specs in Legion.
- Feign Death is OP. Up to now it’s OP. You can run to a village of mobs… aggro all of them… Run and escape with Feign Death.
- Easy to Play, Hard to Master. This is an example I did in WoW Classic. I am on a quest that requires me to get an item. I usually climb on the top of the mountain and to Eagle Eye to scan a village of mobs from a distance to locate if the quest item has spawned there. If it’s there, I go to the village. Then I have my pet aggro every mobs in there as I sneak to the quest item and click it. Then run away. And feign death. I got the quest item without killing a single mob. That, there made me love my Class.
- Very Annoying on BGs. I remember 1 WSG game in WoTLK where my powerful Alliance team is against a powerful Horde team. It was back and forth. We get their flag but they stole our flag too. We kill their flag carrier and they kill ours too… It was like that for 45 min. But the score went to 2:2. We have to change strat to win. Instead of me on Offense, I went on Defense with me on Shadowmeld with my Pet on Prowl putting a Freeze trap near the Alliance Flag. Our Offense is on their way to score the flag and I am defending. Before our Offense get into our base, a Rogue Sap me while in Shadowmeld. I broke the Sap using my trinket, Scatter Shot him. While this is happening, another Horde went straight to steal our flag but got caught by my Freeze Trap. I wingclip’d the Rogue and our Offense came to score. My team asked, there’s 2 Horde in our base… 1 Freeze Trapped and 1 slowed… I told them it was me. LOL. We won.
Right now, Aspect of the Cheetah is super nerfed. No more melee mobs kiting. I think Wingclip and Scatter Shot is accessible on Warmode On. I am not sure though as I am no longer doing PvP.
My Criteria for spec to choose right now is… Hunter has to be in Range and has to have a Pet. Survival is now melee so boo Blizzard. MM usually play petless… boo Blizzard. It left me with one choice… to be a BeastMaster Hunter. It so happened BM Hunter is king of World PvE… unkillable becoz we have our own tank, our pet while we destroy our targets in range… add feign death and it’s really impossible to die.
BM hunters are also mobile. All our attacks are Instant Cast. There are no cast time where we get stuck on 1 place… all Instant Cast. We can pew pew complete our Nuke rotation while moving. That’s why we are very good on contents where we need to move continuously. M+, Heroic/Mythic Raiding ,Horrific Visions, and handling high corruption negative effects… We are the perfect Class/Spec for 8.3. I am telling you… it’s very good to be a BM Hunter on 8.3.
Plus… we can have a mount that matches our Pet/s. Having double Bee pets on a Bee mount? Yes. Having Gryphon Pets on a Gryphon mount? Yes. And now Aqir pets on a Shadowbarb mount. And recently I learned from Petopia that I can now tame Amani Battle Bear pets to match my Amani Warbear mount.
BTW, we can ride our Pet as a mount too… it’s Hati. These are all Hunter stuffs that other Classes may not know.
