I don’t understand how it’s even possible for maintenance to get extended four times and take this long when the people working on the game have decades of experience in the industry.
you realize that the people who have “Decades of experience” as you put it have never had to do something of this nature with copying millions of characters and making sure all the mail is perfectly fine. Also, there is fact that the people who created the game that would have that “Decades of experience” are either working on other projects now because of promotion or have LEFT THE COMPANY! Like give them a break. As well, they are dealing with covid and working from home just like the rest of the US.
I don’t know if you are a programmer but coming from someone who does program in a small compacity of a law firm, I can’t even imagine what game coding is like. It’s not simple, especially when everything is having to be done remotely.
Because no matter how much you prepare, things can and do happen. And unless you’re working with exact copies of production, which likely isn’t feasible at the size of the game, there’s always a chance something you didn’t expect to happen causes a chain of events that royally screws you.
It’s honestly pretty hilarious that people seem to have this attitude as if Blizzard wants things to not be working or it was their plan to have servers be down for this long.
Oopsie whoopsie

I doubt the majority of the current team worked on the original Vanilla/TBC
The phrase “it’s just a game” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, you’ve lost twice.
There’s always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle.
why you have to be mad, its only game?
I am in the middle of carrying a league of legends game about to close it out, and my bra-less wife brings me a sandwich (not asked for) with chips as I get a double kill bot lane.
So how is your day going?
my day is going great, your bra-less wife brought me a sandwich earlier
Decade’s of experience that has left the company and these days is forced to run on a shoe-string budget by its parent company.
The vast majority of migrations that get stuffed up in the IT world do so because not enough resources was allocated to the project.
Many many many companies have done projects much bigger than this and much quicker.
Projects like this aren’t that hard - if enough resources and time are allocated to the project. Considering that extra money would bite into Mr Kotick’s salary and bonus what are the chances you think Blizzard was allocated a decent amount of resources by Activision to do this properly?
Thats Blizzard for you.
Money comes first at the expense of everything else.
Hence the poor release.
Oh give me a freakin break. A while back one of the two lights on the hood above my stove went out. They aren’t threaded but instead they have two prongs that plug into openings and twist to lock in place. It’s super annoying trying to hold the light bulbs up into the hole and line up the prongs just right to get it to go in. Usually takes me five minutes of swearing under my breath before it just magically pops in.
Well this time was different. This time the whole socket assembly pushed back inside the hood. I had to take the whole hood assembly apart to put it back into its home, but it got worse! ONce it was apart I realized that a lot of the grease the hood vent had been sucking up wasn’t getting caught in the filter and the inside of the hood was absolutely DRIPPING with greasy oil. I had to scrub every sticky gooey part of it.
By the time I had the light bulb replaced I had spend about two hours working on the five minute project. Don’t you DARE pretend that you don’t have a similar story at home or at work where a simple project you have done many times goes off the rails because of some unexpected problem.
Give it up.
I didn’t say they have decade’s of experience with wow, I said decades of experience in the industry
Buy a new range hood?
