[Dec 29] Wave Broadband - Intermittent Latency & Packet Loss

Both of the computers in my home have no connectivity issues with any other blizzard or otherwise game except world of warcraft. We see world latency spikes of >5000 after a random amount of time playing. I’ve removed all addons, reinstalled the game after deleting my interface and cache folder caused other issues. I’ve tried the ipconfig fixes and that was giving short term relief now does nothing. Here is a copy of my WINMTR test from the last spike.

Following the spike the latency returned to “normal” but my character couldn’t do anything in the game. I sat with temperory buffs at 0 seconds remaining and couldn’t interact with anything, I had to Alt+F4 to reset the game. Looking for any help because this is beyond frustrating.

(I put spaces between the .net and .com because I can’t Post links in my posts)

Hi, I am on Wavecable too. Seeing the exact same thing. World latency spikes to 5k. I have had Wave replace all the lines in my house plus replace the modem 5 times. It’s nothing on my end causing the issue. I have seen up to 19% loss on the last hop on my end.

137.221.105.2 = 19% loss.
xe-0-0-1-1-br02-eqla1.as57976. net = 1% loss.

When I get the World lag I exit the game and release/renew IP and flush my DNS

Type in search on your taskbar: command and you can right-click the Command Prompt to run as administrator.
When the command window comes up type: ipconfig /release wait till it releases then type, ipconfig /renew
Once that finishes type ipconfig /flushdns.

And I did see you have done this and like I said it does provide temp relief on occasion but doesn’t always work :frowning:

When all that finishes jump back in the game. Sometimes it helps others it doesn’t and it’s annoying when you are doing dungeons and bgs I know but it’s the only thing I can do to at least play without the huge World MS lag.

I hope you have better luck getting someone to help you then I did.

Wow this sounds jus tlike my current problem in the post below this one! I am on wave cable as well!

I am on the 1 gig line and it does the same MS BS!

Constant increasing lag here also. Starts out 23ms/23ms and after 3-5 minutes goes anywhere from 234ms -750ms on both realm and world. Moved renamed Interface, WTF, and Cache to OLD backfiles and ran WinMTR with same results.

And I have released, renewed and flushed the IP multiple times.

Similar problem, also on Wave broadband. No other games, apps are affected, and my overall speed/bandwidth is fine.

@ Icosiel
Your’s is closer to what I am experiencing right down to %loss on:

xe-0-0-1-1-br02-eqla1.as57976. net

and

137.221.105.2

Don’t let them talk you into saying it is your equipment because it is not. As you can see I put them through the wringer on this one and it turns out nothing we can do on our end to fix it. Wave will absolutely not deal with you if it is outside the 3rd hop no matter how much you call. They will just keep sending techs out to replace everything, which I made sure to waste their time as they were wasting mine.

I am on Wave cable as well and experiencing same problem. 1 gig down supposedly. get 50 ms to server and 6k to game. Especially joining instances like arena or BGs.

Im in North Carolina, and today has basically been unplayable for me. Century Link.

Same thing here, they won’t do anything about it … I’ve reinstalled the whole game with no success … the issue seems to be ae1-br01-eqse2.as57976 dot net

Speed of the connection is not at all relevant the game at peak uses just about 1 Mega Bit per second. What matters more is how stable the connection is.

The loss just indicates a busy node if the loss were really 24 percent it would show up on the next node also as the data going to the next node has to pass through the previous node.

I’m only having problems with this game and I’m on wave broadband as well.

I also put in a support ticket, and the GM mentioned the use of a VPN to dodge the problem. I went ahead with a VPN and haven’t seen an issue since. Just food for thought if that’s an option for those of you still experiencing the problem. Hopefully techs from blizz can figure out the cause.

Curious, when did you guys start seeing the issue, we didn’t see it until 8.1 dropped.

This is a routing issue and none of that route having issues has anything to do with our ISP except its the only path we are allowed to use with our ISP. I already know a VPN will fix the issue but that comes with its own ups and downs which I do not want to delve into to play the game.

I already went above and beyond to see about getting this fixed. I just wanted to let other Wavecable customers know that you cannot solve this with them as they will absolutely not deal with it.

Just so others know Blizzard was aware of a routing issue with Wavecable awhile ago and acknowledged in a thread that they were working with WAVE in October. My issues started shortly after this and has continually started declining steadily. I have been working with Wave since October so that should give you a timeline of how many techs, phone calls and visits I have had just to see if I could get this sorted.

Whatever routing issue that was discussed or “solved” back in October, they locked the thread btw, may have fixed one thing but just like coding a game it broke something else.

Here is my WinMTR so you can see:

This sounds alot like the issues i have been having as well.
But im with Unwired.

I’m posting this in every dang thread about lag because this is so frustrating to basically see/hear nothing from Blizz about fixing a problem, instead of arguing if there is a problem!!!

Of course it is a BFA issue and most recently 8.1. At some point it is insulting to see that many people across many different platforms (PCs, ISPs) are saying the same thing yet the reply of "must be your problem, try resetting your " is just, seriously, insulting.

Many of us, myself included, are either technically aware of how networks operate, or (again myself included) have worked in IT - networking - for years. We aren’t your mom who needs to be told how to reboot Windows.

The lag has been horrible with increasing intermittent lag making the game “pause” for 1-3 seconds, making it basically unplayable. At this point I have removed all addons and still my UI will basically stop.

To add a little more, when WoW is showing home & world latency in excess of 600ms, where normal is 35ms (for me), yet Discord is showing 27ms and a variety of ISP testing tools show 25-30ms latency, that ends the discussion about it being my local ISP, my PC, anything “local” to me.

As a long time IT professional I’m aware things can spiral pretty fast from good to bad, and that’s just part of technology, and I don’t mind it when there are problems that need resolved. What is maddening beyond reason is a denial a problem exists, or even better, that if YOU are not experiencing the same problem that I am, it somehow dismisses that I am in fact having a problem.

So for the love of god…will someone from Blizz who is willing to actually listen and not be defensive, please take a moment to consider that there is a problem and your customers are growing increasingly frustrated.

Thank you all for your reports so far! There is a known issue that we have been tracking for Overwatch, here for Wave Broadband/Wave G. Recently, there have been reports with other Blizzard games experiencing intermittent packet loss and latency spikes as well.

We are aware of the issue and currently gathering information. Please provide the following:

Thank you, everyone, again for your patience and we hope the issue can be resolved quickly. We will continue to update when updates are available.

The title of this thread has been changed to reflect the issue better, so we can gather data from Wave Broadband users.
