Debuff Limits

So my group of friends are trying to get our classes and specs figured out, and the topic of affliction locks and debuff limits came up. Do we know if the limits are still in place for classic, or have they been increased? Assuming the limits are still the same, how big of a deal is it to try to raid as affliction?

Sixteen slots for the debuffs

Debuff limits will be 16 from the start. IIRC.

There was a blue post about it or in one of their philosophies post:

" * I.e. Debuff Limit - in 2004 you could have 8 debuffs on a mob and that was it. In 2005 it was 16, BC it was 40, now it’s effectively uncapped. This originally was a technical limitation, not a design values problem. We will be restoring it to 16 debuff limit. It is objectively worse design but we don’t want to mess with the 1.12 data so we’re going with 16."

Raiding as affliction, you don’t use any dots. Just your assigned curse (elements or shadow generally). And then on the rare occasion, you can add a corruption.

You can raid just fine as affliction spamming shadowbolt, but it’ll be just that.

If you’re asking if DoT builds are viable for dps, they’re not. They’ll get pushed off constantly by the deep wounds your warriors are applying.

Anyone could tell you it’s 16, and no, you won’t use most dots in raids. Most warlocks can still use corruption, depending slot availability. This is because corruption is the 2nd best dot in the game. The only thing better is shadow word pain, and this is assuming your raid has a shadow priest. Healer priests don’t have the talents behind it.

Deep wounds is a priority 3 debuff. A casted Debuff will kick it off.

how SWP is the best DOT? Because of the talent that SP have that increase shadow damage taken by 3% stacking up to 5 times(to 15%) ?

Thanks for all the quick answers, this will definitely help us out.

DPS
R6 Corruption: 666, 111 per tick
R7 Corruption: 822, 137 per tick (This is after the AQ upgrade book)
Pain: 852, 142 per tick

:eyes: Dear C’thun… i never knew that!

is that for all priest, or it’s shadow priest?

Those are base values, but only shadows have the talents to keep it worthwhile in raids. Every warlock has nightfall and shadow mastery. Healing priests however don’t have any points in shadow. It’s not worth using pain off your healers, vs just having your warlocks use corruption.
