I mained rogue in classic thru wotlk but eventually dropped the class to a distant alt as time went on because it has always felt flimsy compared to the OG. Without the power of back then rogue always feels like trying to run uphill.
I’m testing out assassin currently and now I don’t understand why people are going deathstalker which requires ambush to apply deathmark but so much of our power and utility is built into garrote.
Edit: I guess it’s fine

Thats partially cause of the talents surrounding Garrote, allowing to use its buffed version for a short while after coming off stealth, even multiple times.
Making the use of Ambush, not much of a hindrance.

I was running Fatebound in the raid, but I switched to Deathstalker because of that Bait and Switch talent. That talent is just bonkers. Fatebound is paper thin, it has no defense in the tree other than the completely useless absorb that for some reason is tied to our crit, such a garbage talent.
I run Fatebound in M+ and Dstalker in raid.

They could just program it to be the first garrote out of stealth. It doesn’t have to apply to others during that window.

Because Subterfuge gives you plenty of time to get a single Ambush in there. Add on top that you have talents that buff your Ambush when used against targets afflicted by Garrote.
It’s not terribly hard. It’s not even unwieldy except where you can’t re-apply because you miss Darkest Night window forcing you to Vanish.
