So I found out that when you went into the Ruby Sanctum to get the book, and learn about the whereabouts of the fallen dragon Kyranastrasz’s whereabouts — That if you killed heaps of the Red Dragonflight, you’d get a hidden ‘Feat of Strength’ achievement.
I thought it would had been the other way around – when I was on my Death Knight, I used tanking methods & tactical crowd control methods so I could retrieve the book - Without slaying a single dragon.
I considered what I’d pulled off a highly impressive feat, at the time of the expansion. I wanted a dragon-mercy achievement, but found out recently there was only one for mercilessness.
At the very least thought I’d get unique dialog from the Red Dragons for being an unstoppable force of undeath & tenacity, unrelenting to seize the goal - brushing all the dragons off shoulders like newborn whelps; yet recognised for the restraint & mercy exercised.
I’d love if there was a DK unique questline to not only gain absolute forgiveness, but also exalting respect for what their surprising heroism and badassery doing it. Perhaps the Vilebrood Vanquisher having free will and saving its kin along with us in time of need? Could be done in such a way it’s a throwback to the Death Knight questline when we used the Frost Wyrm …
– It’d be cool to see them do more content / questlines for classes, whether they were connected to their adventurers through the Orderhalls in the Legion invasion or not.
unholy determination
Shortly after this achievement became available, Ornyx) announced that it was never intended to go live - due to only being obtainable during a non-repeatable quest - and would be removed
You’re right - It was a blue post (I’d quote - but it was European forums)
The comment they made on the blue post was as stated —
"This Feat of Strength wasn’t actually intended to go live. We’d decided some time ago that it didn’t really fit in line with our philosophies regarding achievements, particularly due to the non-repeatable nature of the Class Mount questline. Once 7.2.5 is released, it will no longer be granted, and will be removed from players who had already received it.
I can appreciate that no-one likes having something taken away from them. To try and clarify a little bit why we came to this decision; during the course of the PTR testing feedback from the community overwhelmingly pointed out that a missable achievement was both unfun for players that missed it, and unfun for players that felt compelled to slaughter innocent red dragons to achieve it."
– Regardless of that, I’d still love a questline of sorts for Death Knights where we mend ties with the Red Dragonflight in a badass Death-Knightly way – Would be more fitting too if we did it perhaps with the drake we raised into undeath.
Ironic that dudes post wants to claim missed achievements are “unfun” to those who miss them and yet people miss achievements all the time.
Hand of ad’all, undying, of the black harvest, many many other achievements and titles that many of us will never get and yet the achievement for going murder hobo on the dragons is taken out…what a crock.
Very different from the Mage Tower achievement. DK thing was a quest, that after completion you couldn’t change how you completed it.
— If players found out later in the expansion of Legion about Mage Tower, they could just go and do it. Also from the pols, and towering threads upon the forums - Most enjoyed Mage Tower, as a fun experience & reward.
Additionally, WoW has also had challenge mode rewards uniquely earned through the time of expansion since MoP.
I haven’t earned a handful of challenge mode appearances (and mounts) that I covet & desire a lot, but I still think its fair.
I’m not too bothered about the achievement it’s self, but I would like the roleplay credit dialog & unique encounters + continuation of story for classes.
As for the other achievements & titles - For a handful they should apply the ‘Herald of the Titans’ treatment – Where if you complete it on a toon who’s at the appropriate level, and item level then completion of X event or instance will grant you the achievement & title. Perhaps even ‘If you earn it on Classic Account’ the rewards will breach over to retail account, because it’s “Within the time” in a sense.
