Doesn’t really matter to me. Dolby headphones is way better than some effect I probably won’t even notice. I bought it just to use with WoW because it sounded way better than the free alternatives. It sounds awesome in WoW and helps with mechanics. For example in during Za’qul in The Eternal Palace when the portals that the tentacles came out of spawned you could hear exactly where it was without turning the camera around. Also when the harpy adds spawned on Stormwall Blockade you could know which section of the boat they were at just by the sound.
I’m using a pair of Logitech G935 headphones and have the surround sound feature turned off (I’m not a fan of it) in the Logitech software settings and I’m still hearing the popping sound from DK’s
*As of 11/29 9PM EST the issue persists just played a couple battlegrounds and am still hearing it
Is your headphone sound set to Stereo in the Windows settings? In Control Panel go to Sound then right click your headphones and click “Configure Speakers” and see if it’s set to stereo. Really weird it’s happening for some people even in Stereo. I was in a dungeon with 2 DKs and changing sound to stereo made it go away from the rest of the dungeon so I thought for sure that fixed it.
You are right it is set to 7.1 surround sound in the windows setting but that is the only option that I have there is no stereo option at all…
Stopping back in to report that for the past few days I’m pretty sure I haven’t been hearing the popping. I didn’t do any of the fixes and I made sure my audio/headphones settings were the same as when I was having the issue.
Maybe hotfixed? Interesting to see others are still having the issue tho
This is great to hear actually!
I might have to get a pair and see if I can figure out what specific scenario Was causing issues with DK voice processing. Sounds like it might be a more unique situation.
Great to hear that the sounds allow you to know that gameplay without having to look!!
Great testing and solutions - thank you!
It works with any headphone, and it’s built into Windows 10. All you need is a stereo headphone and Windows 10 installed. There’s a trial so you can try it out. That’s what sold me on it for WoW.
Oh wow - had no idea!
I’m going to look into that and do some testing… I feel like this might be our culprit…
not hotfixxed just gave a round of testing turning the Sound_EnableDSPEffects back to 0
are you talking about dolby atmos with a stereo headset or a gaming headest with dolby used as their built in surround sound system, because as far as i know everyone facing this issue is using some form Gaming headset
I have studio headphones using W10’s Dolby Atmos Headphone. I don’t have a gaming headset.
well that may be an alternative but i doubt people will want to pay X amount of money after alrdy buying a gaming headset, which from as from what i understand gaming headsets are afflicted
most people will want a gaming headset of their choosing, for various reasons over a basic headset, like a built in mic (most common reason im assuming) and among other things
also im assuming people who have a gaming headset play other games besides wow and dont have issues with other games (same as i do)
so while a studio headset (stereo) with dolby atmos/dtsX may be an alternative, its not one i would recommend at all to any gamer (unless they play only solo games with no need for coms)
Low and behold, after posting here today that I wasn’t hearing the noise, it is now back. I am really befuddled with this lol.
Can anyone explain how to use the / command because I’m typing it in game and it doesn’t do anything.
type “/console Sound_EnableDSPEffects 0” with out quotes press enter, restart game, if doesnt work use this addon instead, as explained by eoden
just press the little arrow to the right of the box it will shoot you back up to his post
It says something about a DK voice line fix in the latest hot fix notes can anyone confirm they are fixed?
https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/news/23580183/hotfixes-november-30-2020
no fix, pop still present in the left ear but can be adjusted by overall sound volume slider in game, noticeability varies between light and heavy combat definitely still present though, theres a pop in the right ear now more frequent than before hotfix, but its position (of pop sound) makes it less harmful to the ear
compared to the left
left side pop is painful, right side pop is annoying but doesnt inflict pain like the left
workaround posted above still works
dang that’s a shame thanks for testing
hey i found some HighpassDSPCutoff in the cvar settings with the addon eodon recommended for the workaround, can these be any help to us? ive also noticed theres not one for “self” or “PCC”
or if any one else has any kind of input on what these are
also for QA’s or any GM’s
system forced me to make a new ticket instead of opening the old one
ticker reference number US76717575
(information has been forwarded up to proper departments, as told by GM in this ticket)
Can anyone tell me what “/console Sound_EnableDSPEffects 0” does exactly? Is it just muting the DK voice effects? If it’s potentially muting other sound effects I’m not sure if I want to use it…
It disables all of the special processing effects that are coated over top of the raw sound effects in the game - like reverb.
Example would be - if you do /roar in a small room, the reverb DSP effects of that room would make your voice sound like you’re in a small room. But if you go to a very large chamber and /roar, your voice would have a big echo on it there.
By disabling DSP altogether, you lose out on effects like that echo that can make your experience more immersive otherwise.
