I’ll start off by saying this isn’t something I’m bringing up because I want my favorite class to be added to Forever RIGHT NOW. Just more of a discussion if they were to add DKs.
So with Arthas he made his own DKs and that’s where we get what we started playing in Wotlk. With Forever we can assume that we just won’t be going to Northrend maybe ever and Arthas is entombed in his ice. So how would we get playable DKs? I mean there’s still undead, especially with Naxx, and there are other Necropolis’s so maybe that’s one answer for where. For how, I guess just the Legion. For why, what thematically makes sense for why we are able to play as free willed DKs. I honestly don’t know. I’m sure they could find a way that connects the dots enough to give it to us. But these wouldn’t be the same Death Knights we got with Wrath. These guys wouldn’t have been made in Arthas’ image. So their design wouldn’t be the same.
I think if they go forward with all of that a cool difference to make is to drop blood and frost and make these DKs solely shadow unholy and necromancy. And there’s your three specializations. Necromancy obviously being about the things we raise, a nice variety that is situational, I kinda like to think of them like shaman totems. A good change to me would make summons cost bones and as dks we get bones from killing things and we use them to bring the undead back to life. But they shouldn’t be permanent either, they are after all decaying. So having situational summons that decay and maybe if you go further into the necro tree at a cost reduction. A better variety would be great. Like I love ghouls but skeletons are so much cooler to me and zombies. Maybe skeletons are base line and zombies are a mid lvl option that requires bones and a corpse. I don’t intend to see an army of the dead because that would just be completely over powered in the classic setting that is Forever.
With the other two specs, a sword and shield tank makes the most sense to me and putting the tanking spec as Unholy with things like bone shield and Death and Decay being ways to mitigate damage and aoe aggro. Unholy strike being your spender. I still love the design of runes and runic power so would love to see that be there still. We could still get a decent DoT with our plagues.
Another fantasy I’ve also wanted to see is a more range oriented necromancer and I think Shadow would be a great tree to kinda get some ranged abilities along with some melee abilities much like how survival got some decent melee options and trap options, though with shadow maybe it’s just all connected to shadow damage. So I don’t want to just rip things from a warlock and add it to this version of a dk. So maybe no shadow bolt, but some unique ranged shadow attacks like something that looks like death grip but instead is clawing at the target instead of gripping it, would be interesting. A shadow slice if you preferred melee.
Something to also go with the class is to not only bring in runeforging for the class and diversify it much like you’ve done with mages and rogues. But with different professions bringing them closer to feeling inline with other classes. Enchanting getting Librams, maybe you could add some unholy Librams for dks. Maybe also add a new form of gear to be made for Tailors, I know I’m not the only person that thinks about paladins and necromancers wearing heavy plate mixed with cloth. Would be very interesting to add plate options to Tailoring that is cloth based. Maybe those items require materials from mining as well as materials from tailoring, which isn’t very uncommon in forever.
Again this is just to start a conversation. If you’re an avid DK fan like I am please tell me what you would do differently. At the very least this can be a way to cope with the inevitability they will not add in my favorite class of all time.
Alright… if it were to be ever added. It needs to be somehting completely different than WotlK. We don’t stupid mechanic like death grip or leap of faith.

My bet here is that will add Necromancers on Forever and not DK’s, Necros has been a class requested since forever *wink, wink* and now is their chance to fulling that fantasy that the DK’s somewhat covers on retail.

No idea how you do it unless they’re horde only.
Humans are understandably a bit… prickly re Necromancy.

Yeah I don’t mind that either. When death grip was introduced it was kind of crazy.
Let’s get the mechanics of the existing purpose specific tanks right first. As much as I absolutely love DK the current classes need A LOT of work.
That said I read something recently in another dk suggestion thread where to incorporate them into the story a level 60 paladin sacrifices it’s character to become a level 40 death knight trainee. Sounded like a really cool way to integrate them. But there’s so much of the world that doesn’t exist that needs to for DK to work.
I’d be all for seeing a faction of rogue death knights around the time we start to see Naxx-themed content coming out. Honestly, no problem with them keeping their exact same kit as they had on Wrath launch, even. The only thing I would say is a must, is they need to tune their damage to be line with the other 9 classes at whatever state they’re in at that point. The entire “hero class” concept was a failed experiment in terms of power, IMO, and they should just be released as any other class would be.
Honestly, a “starter” 40-50 storyline starting in Northrend, some kind of DK training grounds (like the original DK starting zone was), and spreading out into dealing with the Vrykul of Icecrown to start recruiting them under Arthas would be really cool. End the zone with an inciting incident that results in the faction going rogue, stealing a ziggurat, and fleeing.
Make the ziggurat a sort of neutral faction hub with a port to Org and Stormwind, where DKs can Death Gate back to to train, but then have to return to their capital cities to leave so there’s still a time investment to doing so.
Toss DKs into the leveling zone experience right around level 50 in WPL so they can get straight to work dealing with the Scourge forces. Sounds a lot more thematic to me than the Wrath experience was: “Welcome to the Horde/Alliance. Now go through this portal and fight demons for a bit to power up for the march on Northrend.”
I don’t know. I don’t see why Death Knights can’t just BE the necromancer. Effectively that is what unholy is in retail. They even went as far as to make some of the abilities to hit from further away. I don’t think they would just make a necromancer.
I would love to see DH join along side then and keep that void DH out of here. also monk. all my favorite classes came after classic
No I totally agree, this is just a conversation. Again not demanding them to do any of this now. I want the game to work first. So my problem with that is that you are leveling a whole other class just to get access to another class. DK’s don’t NEED to be a hero class, they just were in Wrath. I would say it makes more sense for them to have a shared 1-10 experience and then get kicked out into the world and some Argent Dawn guy protects them out of pity and is able to get us back into with our factions. Something like that would be way smoother. Leveling is a part of the adventure, you don’t want to take away from the experience of going through the world as that class. So 1-60 just like any other class.
A classic take on DH would be interesting. They’d have to cut the mobility way down though. Glide might be okay, but the dashing is way too much for a Classic environment, IMO. Classes would just have no way to keep up in PvP.
Same with Monk and rolling/flying serpent kick, imo.
Otherwise I’d love to see classic takes on both. Give us Chen returning from Pandaria with some punchy fluff bois to teach us how to monk.
Let’s see Illidan freed to start building an anti-legion force.
Come on, Blizzard! Give us some fun new alternate storylines to the established ones! =)
Baby steps lol. I don’t think any of these need to come out at the same. Especially because none of these classes can be 1 for 1
feel like well have to Waite a year or more regardless
So I agree they should come in with Naxx. I don’t agree that they should have their original kit because thematically it doesn’t quite make sense because these would not be raised by him considering he is frozen at the time of Naxx. I would even go as far as to not even make them undead and just make them essentially necromancers but effectively they would be the same thing. They could just be alive dark worshippers that gained free will and turned against everyone in Naxx and still retained much of their power. Thus the need for a new kit IMO. Plus they would be more about the unholy and shadow side rather than sharing Arthas’ knowledge and influence. So where would they learn blood and frost magic? The San’layn don’t get involved till Arthas comes back. Frost is most definitely his influence passed through Frostmourne.
They don’t need to be a hero class, they can just be 1 to 60 like everyone else and in fact I think it takes away from the experience of Forever by making the experience shorter for them. I don’t even think they need to have the Death Gate. They don’t need to be a group of people that even care about each other to any degree. We definitely shouldn’t go to Northrend. I think a cooler experience is just have like either 1 to 10 or even 1 to 5 starting experience where we wake up and get out of Naxx, a priest of the Argent Dawn finds us and shows pity and introduces us back into society as we know it and it can be that simple. I think it needs to be that simple.
third faction. Scourge. Horizontal progression and would be fun

My opinion I am fine with new classes to this game. I really like the new ideas they had. I don’t mind releasing retail classes as long as they aren’t overpowered. I hate tinker and bard, again just my opinion. If they release tinker or bard instead of any of the others I am unsubbing.
What annoys me is these people will say no changes and demand no shared tagging, because changes spirit of game and is not classic but will be going crazy for a new class.
I don’t think there needs to be a third faction man. I’d much rather have the factions we have matter and be meaningful and in depth. A third faction would just throw the game for loop that it doesn’t need right now.
wdym Necromancy was kinda studied on Dalaran too well before the events of WC3
Please no. Let the Wrath DK’s die with the other timeline. If you want Deathknights in Forever, I would love to see the OG Deathknight’s. The Fel Council version aka Teron Gorefiend.
