Death Knight story

Im kinda new and im really interested in DK lore and the lich king etc. I wanted to know which chromie timeline i should go to so i can continue where i left off after the DK starter storyline. Alot of people told me to do legion for the class hall but im not sure what that is. And theres also people telling me to just do fall of the lich king timeline since thats related to the lich king.
What would work best?

Wrath of the Lich King is the best timeline to do if you want to pick up where the DK starter zone ends as it ties in to what a lot of the starter zone was about.

Plus it’s a great expansion to level in.

wait so why are people being recommended to do legion like ive seen on reddit someone being told he should do the class hall campaign (whatever that is) instead of doing wolk

There is a lot of content in the game.

People recommended doing the class hall because it came with legion, a more modern content that is just easier to digest.

But when it comes to understand Death Knights, you can make a death knight, do the starting zone, then go to chromie and pick wrath of the lich king expansion content.

Legion happens way after that, but it is also good content.

Legion is super popular and the DK order hall is one of the better ones to do in legion, so it’s why it gets recommended a lot.

But Wrath is the best one to do if you wanna follow the DK starter zone without feeling completely lost :bear:

Just be aware of Wrath’s age. I’ll recommend all expansions for lore enthusiasts, but there is a reason that content has been phased out. There is a reason Blizzard has made it difficult to experience the older content. I wouldn’t genuinely recommend any pre-Legion content to any new player, just because it doesn’t hold up to modern gaming standards.

The wrath dk start zone is so unique. It definitely scratches that itch for those who want to play a more darker or villainous character.

So the overall story picks up with Wrath of the Lich King. That’s where you’ll face Arthas, the remains (well sorta, it’s complicated) of the Scarlet Crusade which becomes the Scarlet Onslaught in the DK zone, and you’ll see where the DK zone npcs mostly end up.

But there isn’t much in the way of DK-specific content in Wrath. There is some, but not quite a lot.

Thisd is why some people are suggesting Legion instead. Legion is where the DK story itself is next picked up. But!! There is a pretty big element of the Legion class hall that you’ll be missing if you skip Wrath (specifically, stuff regarding the Lich King).

At the same time, even if you complete every single Wrath zone, you’ll still be missing out on that, because it’s behind the final boss of the Icecrown Citadel raid. There’s also another plot point in the Legion Order Hall that you’ll miss out on if you didn’t do the Naxxramas raid, but that feels less important and required.

This exactly.

Because the finale to every expansion is locked behind a raid, there’s no good way that a new player can learn the story behind an expansion without missing that story until they level cap and solo the old raid. And sometimes, it’s assumed you already know that finale when the relevant characters show back up again. Hell, there’s even a whole mess locked behind a pre-patch event for an expansion that, if you never did it and are new, will make the rest of that expansion make significantly less sense.

BfA is expansion I’m talking about there, but that’s a rant for another time.

My suggestion, as I’ve sort of done something like this in the past with another character:

1: DK Starting Zone
2: get Chromie to send you to Wrath.
3: At LVL 59 lock your XP (So you can finish the story without Chromie punting you back into the present), proceed until Shadow Vault dailies are unlocked.
4: Come out of Chromie time with XP still locked, go Roflestomp ICC for the satisfaction of your DK character killing Arthas.
5: Go see Chromie again, select Legion and at least do the DK Class Hall campaign. (Unlock XP after completion)
6: Proceed from there as desired, Deathlord.

Not meaning to Necro this thread, just throw my two cents into the matter.

I always have recommended the Legion order hall campaign myself. I joined WoW partway through Cataclysm (damn those British werewolves for that) and absolutely loved the DK starter zone. But once that wrapped up it felt like all that evil we had was stripped away and none of the quest flavor gave me the feeling that the starter zone did.

Fast forward to Legion, where I came back after taking a hiatus before MoP released and I fell in love with it immediately. They really spared no expense setting you up to feel like the deeds you were doing were in service to the Lich King again, especially as a Frost spec player. All the gnarly immoral things you do, with both the main order hall campaign and then the mount quest line, it was a great time to feel like your own class, and not treated like an honorable Paladin or Warrior.

I did play through Wrath leveling up my DK back during the Cata days in order to reach the current expansion (since back then you had to level through BC and Wrath in order to access the content). I can see why for context it’s good to go through Wrath to understand plot points, Legion was just far more memorable for me due to the reasons mentioned.

this is a year old I wonder if this guy still plays wow
